United - Ferguson Brings Them Back Early!

It wasn`t that long ago that Sir Alex Ferguson expressed a desire to give his World Cup combatants the maximum period of rest available.

But circumstances seem to have contrived, especially those related to match-fitness and match sharpness, to force his hand.

Last night, in Dublin, Wayne Rooney made his first appearance since the World Cup, but looked decidedly ring-rusty!

Therefore, with the first match of the new domestic season fast approaching any plans to continue to blood some of our World Cup stars back gradually appear to have gone out of the window with Sir Alex remarking after the 7-1 victory last night,

"Wayne has only had six days training along with Michael Owen and Ji-Sung Park - and they are definitely not ready for real games."

"I will have to play them against Chelsea because that will help bring them on."

"By the time we play Newcastle, Wayne should have played three games including the international friendly."

This World Cup lark has a lot to answer for does it not!
