United beat ROI XI

Over in Dublin last night, at the freshly opened £350 million Avivia Stadium, in Dublin, United cruised to an emphatic victory.

With the Community Shield just days away, a crowd of 49,861 saw United run out 7-1 winners with the plethora of goals coming from Ji-Sung Park (2), Antonio Valencia, Michael Owen, Jonny Evans, Javier Hernandez and a penalty from Nani.

The Republic of Ireland XI replied with a consolation goal from Dave Mulcahy.

The fixture saw Wayne Rooney make his return to first team action after the 2010 World Cup tournament in South Africa but the superstar looked well ring rusty and must have been a little envious of our new Mexican signing, Javier Hernandez, who continued his hot scoring streak with a goal with his first touch after coming on as a substitute.

With our Community Shield opponents, Chelsea, suffering a third straight defeat in Hamburg, United will probably start the fixture on Sunday as slight favourites.

Tune in for our Community Shield review later this week.

Hopefully an amazing middle and finish to the very bright start for Hernandez. A good result for the guys, a real moral boosting result.
