United - Macheda`s Season!

The North American tour has given our fringe players the chance to get in some much needed match practice.

It`s also allowed our strikers the chance to get a confidence boost and in the fixture against the MLS All-Stars, our young striker Federico Macheda did just that scoring a brace.

Last season Macheda didn`t take that quantum leap we all hoped he would following the sensational way in which he`d burst onto the scene the previous season.

But the forthcoming season is eagerly awaited by the youngster who had this to say for himself when presented to the assembled media,

"I think this year could be the one for me."

"I`m ready to play and I hope the manager will pick me for many games."

"But this season I hope to have more chances to show what I can do."

We`re not sure he`ll get that many chances, more of a case of taking a chance when it`s presented although Sir Alex Ferguson certainly rates Macheda high, commenting,

"Macheda is probably the best player going through against the goalkeeper that we have."

"He is outstanding in those positions. When he went through I expected him to score."

But they often say the highest praise comes from those you play alongside week in and week out. Darren Fletcher is another who had nothing but praise for Macheda when he remarked

"He`s a natural goal scorer, a finisher in one-on-one situations. He`s a big strong lad for his age. Sometimes that`s a problem for younger players if they are and that`s why Wayne Rooney coped so well when younger because he was physically capable of doing that."

"Kiko is similar to that. Nothing seems to faze him."

"He`s a confident lad - not cocky or arrogant, just confident in his own ability. He has that ruthlessness."

That ruthlessness to grab a first team chance when presented with it!

I guess only time will tell!

Big, strong, tall, good finish, good head and a decent amount of pace, his got the makings of a great striker. His confidence and determination should give Berby and Owen a run for their money when playing for the first team.

Another major thing to get excited about - it must have been a great thing for you losing Ronaldo, Tevez and all those other average players so you can eulogise over Smalling and Macheda. Things look as though they are on the up at the Swamp.
Wswilly3
No wswilly Ronaldo was out of this world, Tevez was average.
TheFamousNo7
If Macheda played for any other team, im sure city would have made a €40 million bid for him by now.
khoder
Macheda wouldn't even get in the A team - don't you realize you are so starved of excitement you are trying to cheer yourself up with Macheda and Smalling fantasies. You'll be telling me next that Gary Neville is handsome and Paul Scholes is intelligent.
Wswilly3
Paul Scholes is intelligent though and you are clearly an idiot.
TheFamousNo7
At least you didn't try and say Gary Neville was handsome.
Wswilly3
Nobody is that deluded Willy.
