United - Ferguson Trusts in Youth!

Over in the USA, having seen off the challenge of the MLS All-Stars, quite convincingly, Sir Alex Ferguson has offered us a glimpse into the future of Manchester United.

During a long interview, published in the tabloids this morning, Sir Alex commented on the youngsters being given their chance at Old Trafford.

Now the comments could be construed on two ways!

Firstly they are a sign that Sir Alex feels he has a group of youngsters that can deliver a golden tomorrow or if you`re a delusional Manchester City fan, an indication that the cash cow has been bled dry.

Personally, having seen these youngsters perform, I`d say it`s the former.

Before we digress though, this is what Sir Alex had to say,

"I`ve got probably 12 players all under 21, which is a fantastic average age, and the future should be pretty secure with them."

"Over the years we`ve bought players for quite high amounts like, Berbatov, Ferdinand, Veron and Rooney. But we try to equate how we`re going to get the proper value before we do it."

"When I see some of the values now, and you`re talking about players at £40 million or £30-odd million, we have to assess our own players first."

"We take a quite good view of it now and say let`s look at our own young players."

"Have they got the ability? How much can we trust them? Do we see a top player in a young player?"

"And we`re not bad, you know. There are some good young players who have come through our system."

"They understand the club, they`re loyal to the club, and we can build on that"

It certainly looks to me as if we`ll be seeing a fair few of those youngsters in our shirt next season, if not as starters but substitutes coming on to try and make an impact!

Quite an exciting prospect. Nice to see we're going to attempt what Barcelona have done so well.
TheFamousNo7
Like Alan Hansen said - you'll never win nothing with kids :-)
merlin
Alan Hansen also predicted Liverpool to win the league last season ;)
TheFamousNo7
You've no choice but to put your faith in youth like Scholes, Giggs, Van der Saar, Owen etc because you are broke and can't afford anything. Les prawns in the sandwiches this season as well.
Wswilly3
man united have always blooded youth its what makes our club great... not a new money upstart like the rent boys or chelski...
3generations
Cos chelski are the destroyers of football right,3generations? We've been blooding youth long before Roman came along. He's revamped the academy & going to reap the fruits of its labour soon dont worry.
Chelsea24/7
Just cos you get the da silva twins, nani, anderson & ronaldo at a young age doesnt mean you've necessarily blooded them.
Chelsea24/7
Is he wrong Chelsea24/7? Fair enough you are starting to introduce your academy but your lot weren't to keen to do that in previous years. Also I think its fair to say we have blooded them, put them through their strides in the PL is surely a big part of development.
TheFamousNo7
So I guess all the reds I speak to who believe (to mix a metaphor) that the cash cow has been bled dry are delusional too then.
fifthcolumnblue
Once again fc imaginary friends don't have an opinion, you can't just make them up :P Seriously though you always talk about how were going to jump ship and etc, and its your friends who appear to be the doubters, hardly true reds.
TheFamousNo7
Most of the reds I know either drink in pubs around Chorlton or are former work colleagues. Many of them are in their late fifties and remember a long way back, before the dawn of the Sky era - remember, when manure were just another football club without a vast marketing machine behind them? These are the type of gents who remember going to watch manure one week and then going with their mates to stand in the Kippax. Back in the day the hatred that leads fans to take golf balls and darts to derby matches didn't exist. Of course I know quite a few younger manure fans who are for the most part compete City haters (thought we didn't matter?). But they all have one thing in common - they are incredibly worried about what the Glazers are doing to your club - and so they should be.
fifthcolumnblue
These are the fans whom look at the what the Glazers are doing for the club in one light. Like I said, when you don't like someone you can only see the worst in them. People are so quick to forget about all the success brought to the club while they were in charge. They take money out of the club, well what would you expect? They're businessmen trying to make money so of course they're going to take. I'm not for the Glazers however i'm not against them, I just try and look at the whole thing from 2 different points of view.
TheFamousNo7
here here .........we love you Glazers or yes we do .....keep on racking up the debt, paying profits to the banks in interest .......we love you Glazers or yes we do.
Wswilly3
Wswilly3, Manchester City fan since 2008.
TheFamousNo7
We love ypu Glazers oh yes we do - best thing that happened to United since Tommy Docherty - do you go that far back?
