United - A Legend on United!

One of my all-time United heroes just has to be Bryan Robson!

He was a player that wasn`t the most skilful but his sheer desire to win, allied with his incredible work-rate, endeared him to many a United supporter.

As a manager, he hasn`t achieved the success many pundits predicted he might, spells at Middlesbrough and West Brom ended in disappointment and now he`s dabbling in international management, ain a place that currently escapes me.

But when Robson speaks, he usually has something interesting to say and something that isn`t too far away from being one hundred per cent accurate. Today, one leading red-top has an article that contains many quotes form Bryan Robson. Quotes that touch on a variety of subjects and subjects that are close to our heart.

First up is the subject of Michael Carrick, a player Fabio Capello chose to take to South Africa but didn`t use,

"Michael Carrick has a massive part to play for United. He didn`t play so well in the second half of last season, but he`s proved he`s a top player."

"He reads the game really well, he`s a great passer of the ball, and he`s very good at intercepting."

"Quite a few of the boys have got to pick themselves up and prove themselves again. If I was picking the England team, Michael would have been in my team.

Very true, Carrick needs to re-establish himself this term, after fading badly last season although that spell as a centre back might not have done his cause any good.

Continuing, Robson goes on to talk about our Achilles heel, a failure to score as often as we should from midfield,

"I just feel United need to score more goals in the midfield area."

"We do okay but we don`t score enough to support the strikers and take a bit of pressure off them. It`s an area where we can improve."

"Hopefully Nani will come back confident, the way he finished off last season, because he had an outstanding last four months."

"And I really like Antonio Valencia. He`s a top player and that`s part of the reason Wayne Rooney scored as many goals as he did."

Moving further up front, Robson is looking for Dimitar Berbatov to hit the net regularly, explaining,

"If Dimitar Berbatov starts to concentrate more on scoring goals and being in the build up play all the time, he can definitely get a lot more. He`s proved that at Tottenham before."

At least Berbatov has started to hit the net on our North American tour, here`s hoping he can continue once the domestic season starts.

Lastly, a few words of reassurance for all those doubting we`re good enough to overhaul Chelsea and fend off the challenge of big spending Manchester City,

"There are still plenty of top players at the club."

"The structure of the team is very good. It`s just getting everybody fit."

Fitness, the plague of the modern day game and something that seems to be more of a problem these days, or is it just me who sees things that way?

The demands of football have become really quite tough for players to cope with, thats why i'm for the Winter break. Also the lack of goals from midfield is a problem that does really need to get sorted, hopefully Anderson will find his shooting boots and live up to the 'next Ronaldinho' tag which ha been placed on him.

when would you schedule the winter break for with our unpredictable weather?
