United - Bringing Youth on Again!

Whether it be the 'Busby Babes' era or the 'Fergies Fledglings` era, United have never been afraid to give youth a chance.

In fact it was a young United team that proved Alan Hansen totally wrong when he suggested that you never win anything with youngsters, with Beckham, Scholes, Giggs and the Neville brothers prominent that year.

Therefore, it`s interesting to look at the squad and see a similar scenario developing, although, admittedly, some were brought to the club rather than brought through the youth system.

With Smalling19, Cleverley 20, Welbeck 19 and the Da Silva twins (20) all blossoming and forcing there way into the first team picture, it`s got Ryan Giggs, amongst others, crowing,

"Hopefully these young players will get better. They`re excited and want to do well. I see their determination on the training ground."

"They want to learn, get in the United team and stay there."

"That`s what I was like when I was younger and I see the same desire in them."

"Their determination and hunger can see them kick on."

"There is an added hunger in the squad after not winning the title last season."

Will youth be a prominent factor in 2010 / 2011?

Or do we run the risk of allowing big-spenders, like Manchester City, hauling us in and narrowing the gap even further?
