'If It's Football, It's Vital'

United - Getting Off To a Solid Start!

A World Cup year inevitably shortens the gap between one season finishing and the next commencing.

Not in terms of time between the closing fixture of one season and the opening fixture of another but in the availability of coverage of football.

2010 has seen that period spread a little over five weeks and, as I write, the forthcoming domestic season is a mere thirty days away.

Fears that we`ll start with a depleted squad with Sir Alex intending to rest those who participated in the 2010 World Cup may materialise as a poor start with those aforementioned players drifting back to training behind those who reported back on day one.

It`s a point picked up on by Ryan Giggs, currently in Canada as United prepare to take on Celtic in Toronto, with Giggs remarking,

"It`s always difficult after a World Cup because the players who have been involved in the tournament have time off."

"You just hope there`s no hangover from South Africa and everyone can hit the ground running. Hopefully, our players will come back refreshed and we can get off to a good start."

A good start is a necessity if we don`t want to be playing catch-up but we have every faith that those players normally on the fringes of the action can deliver the goods, don`t you!

I honestly believe with everyone fighting for places we're going to see some amazing performances from the unlikeliest of people and perhaps even one or two rising stars. Plus, we normally start poorly and pick up so it wouldn't be too disastrous.
