United - Could Carrick Go?

Last season wasn`t the best of seasons for Michael Carrick.

The international midfielder struggled, as the season reached a conclusion, to hold down a first team spot at Old Trafford.

As the title slipped away and headed to London, Carrick only played a periphery role, a fact that has been noticed by the Sunderland boss, Steve Bruce.

The inference is that Bruce is preparing a bid of something in the region of £7 million to try and lure the twenty-nine year old back to his native north-east.

Carrick, who cost Manchester United £14 million when signed from Tottenham, four years ago, was part of the doomed England 2010 World Cup squad but only watched on from the sidelines as our hopes disappeared in the first round of the knockout stages.

Whether the proposed bid from Sunderland is considered to be high enough or even whether Sir Alex Ferguson is prepared to let Carrick go remain the unanswered questions.

We`ll keep you posted if we hear of any developments.

He was good for the first couple of seasons for you, so why would you let him go on the back of one slightly dodgy season? If this happens it really will confirm that you need to offload players in order to raise the cash to buy.

Can we have Nani too then? lol

fcb, i totally agree with you! Especially after Hargreaves suffered another setback the last thing the club should be doing is considering offers for Carrick. Also, I really don't seeing us buying anyone wheter Carrick stays or goes.I smell a rat! Even that offer that Inter confirmed that we made for Sneijder, I think was made knowing full well that we hadn't a hope in hell of getting him and was done to con fans into beliveing that we're making an effort to buy players!!!... Maybe I'm wrong?!?!?!?.......

Am not a united fan but looking in,i'd say sell him to free up some cash to boost the squad. My thinking behind it would be that you'll get hargreaves back & in the meantime the young lad Gibson has shown he's got a bit about him

Carrick leaves after 1 bad season and Berby stays after 2 poor seasons, i can't imagine Fergie being that silly.
