South America can be a bit hit and miss when you`re buying talent.
You never quite know what you`re going to get.
For every success there are two or three failures. Perhaps the biggest failure of Sir Alex Ferguson`s career was the signing of Juan Sebastian Veron.
Veron arrived with a huge reputation but laboured badly at Old Trafford before being sold to Chelsea where he didn`t exactly fare much better.
However, Veron has gone on to re-establish himself as a top notch performer and remains the heartbeat of a very good Argentine side led by the wayward, flawed genius that is Diego Maradona.
Ahead of the knockout clash with Mexico, Veron has spoken about his time away from Argentine football remarking,
"I wandered around Europe like a gypsy, without ever finding happiness or somebody who understood me. That`s why I went back to Estudiantes. I was tired of being a wanderer."
"England has a spectacular Premier League but that`s it. They don`t train very much and there were no proper warm-ups at Manchester United."
"Paul Scholes would turn up and fire a shot, without warming-up, from 50 metres towards the goal even when it was minus five degrees."
"I did that once and I pulled a muscle from my knee to my hip."
"I was never happy in England and my time there made me question my desire to continue playing."
No proper-warm ups? Is he serious?
