'If It's Football, It's Vital'

United - A Man`s Home is His Castle!

Or in Gary Neville`s case something that could quite aptly be described as something akin to the much fabled kiddies television programme, the TeleTubbies!

Gary is trying to blaze a new trail in eco-friendly houses by constructing an 8,000 square feet home powered by a wind turbine, some 128 feet high, and utilizing ground source heat pumps and solar panels.

Now you`d think that Gary would be applauded for adopting eco-friendly principles but all is not as it seems.

The house, which will have its kitchen as its centre piece with the other rooms in six petal-like offshoots, is scheduled to be built on greenbelt land and even though it will, basically, be an underground construction, has fallen foul of the locals who regard its construction as an eyesore!

(Although most people might imply Bolton itself to be an eyesore!)

Therefore, to pursue his plans Gary faces an enquiry that could lead to the Government becoming involved to make a final decision on his 6 million project if the initial approval granted by Bolton Council planners is overturned due to local protests.

At a time when eco-friendly projects are to be encouraged, is it not a trait of modern society that the 'not in my backyard` principle remains prominent?
