United - Modric Enticement for Spurs?

A short but slick article to entice you into making a few comments!

Listed amongst the many pieces of gossip on the football pages of the BBC Sports site is a two line suggestion.

It infers that Sir Alex Ferguson is keen to continue his pursuit of Luka Modric, the Spurs playmaker.

This despite the fact Modric has signed a new deal to keep him at Tottenham.

The suggestion continues by implying that Sir Alex will give the Spurs manager, Harry Redknapp, the choice of three players to swing the deal.

Our question to you is

Which three players do you think could come into the equation?

We all know he's signed a new 6 year deal worth 25m, and unless people have been living under a rock for 30 years, the transfer fee no longer means a club just buys out a contract. For once we're in the driving seat against United, Modric is happy, surrounded by friends and has just achieved something that us Spurs fans haven't seen in 20 years. Surely a non starter.

no we want good players. its all just speculation as hes not going to leave and you are dealing with one of the top 4 teams in the epl now its not going to be easy like it was with berba as modders knows what we are aiming for at spurs and has had assurances when he signed his new contract that we are going to really push on and build on last season with new players and keeping the better ones

Guys, we all know its not going to happen the question was which 3 of our players would most likely be offered.I would reckon Gibson, Brown or O'shea/Owen and then a bit of money.

"Listed amongst the many pieces of gossip on the football pages of the BBC Sports site is a two line suggestion." How comical is that? At least us Spuds don't rely on the Beeb for our info...ha ha

Other than the fact it quite clearly isnt true the three players they probably talking about in my view are Carrick, Berbatov and one other from Gibson, Brown, Tosic, Owen or maybe even anderson if they were really pushing it. But seriously, what does it take for the media to stop flogging a dead horse? Perhaps Modric will need to put on a United shirt and set himself on fire before these guys get the picture or maybe that just translates to "Modric Hot for United"

Is an attempt at hiding from the disastrous financial situation your owners are in? How do the season ticket holders feel about supporting the Glazers debts?

I can only think of Rooney who I would genuinely want! Vidic maybe but we're covered there, is Evra that much better than Ekotto? maybe just a little but not enough to lose Modric......Man Utd's midfield is not as strong as it was. Gomes over Van der sarr.....SO GIVE US ROONEY THEN YOU HAVE A DEAL!

Don't be fooled- as proven before with Berbatov and Carrick, players that look the real deal at Spurs seldom make the switch to a big club. I think it's a case of any rose looking brighter in a field of weeds. Modric is good, but not United good.

Oh no wait I got it, you meant Judas oh no he did alright too, sod it I am lost or your wrong.

@ gazzalegend - Evra is worlds apart from Benoit. We need a better left back. There is no doubt that he has a sweet left foot and he works that touchline hard but he is a bit frail defensively. He gets caught out of position far too much. Am not too sure of likely people to get in, there is no way Red nose will let Evra go, Wayne Bridge is sitting pretty on too many thousand pounds a week. The only person in the Premier League who I would have who may be gettable in Pienaar. I am not 100% convinced he is better than our boy but the Everton fans must have seen something in him, I think he got player of the season last season? Don't watch the European leagues much so don't know of any decent targets in Europe. Oh, and this rumour is rubbish. Modric ain't going anywhere after signing a new contract, these rumours were about before he signed it. We obviously don't need to sell and why would he have signed a new deal if he thought moving up to Manchester was an attractive idea?

Oh and for this deal to be true it would have to include Rooney. You'd be looking at 50m for Modric right now in my opinion, simply due to the contract he's signed. That and the fact that he signed it shows HE DOESN'T WANT TO LEAVE. There are not 3 players that you would let go that spurs would want. Rooney, Evra, Vidic, Ferdinand would all obviously get into the spurs side...anyone else I would have reservations about (Valencia was ignored due to Lennon).

When will you Man. Utd fans realise this is one deal "Old Red Nose" will not win. Luka Modric has more about him than Berbatov and Carrick, I cannot see "Red Nose" turning his head like he did with the other two. Also the Spurs Chairman has gone on record after the Berbatov transfer by saying he would not do deals with Man. Utd in the future after their behaviour, so it will not happen, believe me.

Go away and save up for your season ticket. The nice GLAZIERS will love it taking the ***** out of you for another few seasons, until none of your players are left. At this moment, you couldnt afford Modric's used chewing gum.

Imagine all the twits you attract with one lucky qualification!! Jeez, out of the woodwork and into the big boys' playground! First off, I don't think he is good enough, second, like i have repeated so often we have donated enough to the Levy foundation. Just because we got hoodwinked twice.....

elvido, It was the functional social drinker that is Sir Alex of Ferguson who came after both Berbatov and Carrick, getting both players to say they wanted to leave Spurs. The fact that "The grass is greener..." did not work out for them is not Levy or Spurs fault, it was their choice to leave. As regard to not being good enough, again it is "Old Red Nose" who is doing the talking about what a good player Modric is, so "Red Nose" does not agree with you does he? Finally, as has been said many times, with the "Glaziers" in charge you can't afford him.

Ox, your point being? Managers can't appreciate players of any other team? What about 'arry and joe cole? Just because he thinks a player is good does not mean we want him. And Fergie has made mistakes in the past, Djemba*2 and Kleberson anyone? Just because those players you mention were star players in your team does not mean they are expected to perform at th levels required at OT. And the same old debt routine is boring, we have been in debt for the last few years, hasn't stopped us from racking up three domestic and one European title! "Finally, as has been said many times", Sing another tune or shut up. And BTW no one at OT has come out and said that Modric is a player we want, just the media getting the Spuds panties in a twist.

Huddsnewsnarl, every other team's supporter has been looking forward to us eating our words since the PL started, so hop on the bandwagon! We listen to the shame **** everyday. All our supporters are not from here (Hence, the term global brand!) We have a debt with no money (Still surprising that we have already spent close to 20 mill on unproven potential this season already) BTW we don't need to throw wads of money at players, they want to be here because their chances of silverware improves a hundred fold! And I still don't want "Modders" at OT, great player (One i love watching!) but not the goal scorer I want to see here!

With the exception of Rooney and possibly the Scottish guy in midfield, There arn't any players Spurs need. Also if united to coming calling for any Spurs players in the future then Tottenham should make sure they are Cash deal's only because of Manchester united's debt problem. Sorry no more pay later deals. PS United's interest payments are going up about 15 to 20 times the 7% increase in season ticket prices just announced. Hope you enjoyed it while it lasted

elvido its unfortunate that a great team such as Man U have such arrogant foolish supporters such as yourself. You are the epitome of why so many people can't stand united and were so happy to see chealski win the league this year. Put a sock in it and have a modicum of respect for others. If you cant do that then f-off back to whichever rock you crawled from. Every dog has its day. Man U are the team to beat this decade but it wasn't that long ago they were ***** and overshadowed by so many others including Leeds, Liverpool, the Arse and yes, even Spurs. What goes up inevitably goes down. could be sooner or later but it happens. So a bit of humility wouldn't go amiss. FYI most spurs fans aren't in a twist about these rumors, we find it amusing. Oh and for the sake of the post I would take Nani, Fletcher and Evra for Modric plus some cash.

arabspur, if you don't like our attitude, why don't you f-off? No one here's begging for your opinion, this is a United site and I am going to be cocky on it. I am willing to eat humble pie if and when the team is in that position. I don't give a rat's ass that all of you support the Chavs. Arrogance has to be earned, and our team has, albeit over the last decade or so. I can't really be cocky if we are struggling for mid table mediocrity, can I? I have respected fans of other teams here, i reacted to the language that your fans have put in before i made a comment on this article. If you want some respect then behave respectably. I know we are not going to be the top dog all the time and i most certainly respect other teams, why, Arsenal and Spurs are probably the two other teams that i do watch more often than not. I always maintained last season that Chelski deserved the league more than us, but that's as humble as i can get, I am a fan, after all! And indeed, as you say, if this is amusing, why is there so much bile from all the Spurs supporters on here? And you could ask for the entire team in exchange for your Modric, doesn't mean we all live in the same fantasy as you do! It is unfortunate that a team like Spurs that plays good football also has fans like the ones on here, going half cocked about some rumour that the media has been spreading when there has been no comments at all from any of the parties supposed to be involved.

Comical that a Tottenham fan is say what goes up must come down. Spurs are like a yoyo, one season you do well next season you're struggling to get into the top half of the table, every time you get into Europe you completely mess up in the league. Also gazzaspur seriously if Evra was just slightly better than Ekotto than Ekotto would be on level terms with Ashley Cole! Modric worth about 50 mil! Are you on a different planet! Way too many of you spurs fans took this article way too seriously.
