United Rooney on Platinum Stars Outing!

The press hacks confidently forecast that the starting eleven yesterday against the Platinum Stars, would be the starting eleven against the United States this Saturday.

It looks like they were wide of the mark with our very own Wayne Rooney, the golden boy of English football, not making an appearance until the second half, as part of a mass substitution involving ten players.

Rooney, naturally, made his mark on the game, scoring a clinical third goal after a great build up and also having a spat with the referee. But what did he think of not starting?

In the traditional after-match wash-up with the journalists, Rooney remarked,

"It was a good run-out. We needed to get the game in and to play 45 minutes felt good, so I was happy."

"I think we got out of it what we needed."

"I would have liked to have got a bit more of a game but I was happy with the 45 minutes."

Caution, we believe, was the order of the day with such an important fixture looming!
