United - Rio`s Dream Is Over!

United - Rio`s Dream Is Over!

After being taken to the local hospital for scans on his injured knee and being seen leaving on crutches, more news is now available.

Sadly, it has been announced that Rio Ferdinand will play no further part in the preparations or in the actual World Cup.

It is expected that England will call up Michael Dawson, of Spurs, to replace him.

My goodness, there goes England's WC dreams.. Bad news for all English fans. Dawson's solid, but he's no Rio. Even though he's a thugh and I don't particularly like him, Rio is a good CB at the end of the day. Wonder who'll get the Captain's armband now- Terry for Captain!!! lol :P

I guess it's not much of a surprise, really. He was injured for quite some time during the season.. Dawson-JT? Hmm..

Personally i would prefer Lampard to have the captains armband over Gerrard. Lampard gives his all every game, inspires his team mates, has a good work rate and is EXTREMELY consistent. Gerrard however ... just look at Liverpools position to see the lifting affect he has on his team. Dawson is a good defender and this would be a really big chance for him.

TFN7-You could bring in even Roy Keane to that Liverpool team and their position wouldn't change. There is something called as talent and unfortunately there is not much talent in that team but I respect your choice, for me I too would go for Gerrard. You just have to look at the Istanbul game,he single-handedly brought Liverpool back from the dead.

Ledley king will step in and replace him, but if he cant play every game england could be in trouble. International football is all about having centre backs who are good on the ball - its the only way to keep possession. King and Rio are our only two with that kind of ability. I really hope this doesnt drag over into next season for United. Damn you emile heskey!
