United - Carrick Scrapes In!

He certainly kept us on the edge of our seats this afternoon before he revealed his final 23 for the 2010 World Cup didn`t Fabio Capello!

The Italian had us hitting the refresh button numerous times on the official FA site before confirmation came through that Michael Carrick had made the 23 strong party.

All the talk beforehand had been about Carrick, due to some, by his standard, below best performances would miss out.

In fact in our most recent poll 62% of you thought he wouldn`t avoid Capello`s axe with only 26% thinking he was safe, with the remaining 12% siding with me on the unsure stage!

Carrick`s inclusion in the party for 2010 gives Manchester United a representation of three with Wayne Rooney and Rio Ferdinand joining Carrick in South Africa.

Here at Vital Manchester United we`d like to wish all three well as the nations waits expectantly.

Wish him well, hope he can use the opportunity to turn his form around.

Capello's gone bonkers..
JT_daniel
let's hope he doesn't let us down then eh!
merlin
How incredibly lucky, he really didn't deserve it.
TheFamousNo7
Maybe the experience of the big stage has given him that edge.

Pretty sad state of affairs when Capello has to take the likes of Heskey (rubbish), Barry (great player but not fully fit), Carragher (well past his sell by date) and Carrick (woefully out of form). Do we not have any players in this country any more?
fifthcolumnblue
You say that this world cup, imagine the next! Most of the "senior" players would have retired, hopefully!
elvido
I hear what you're saying Elvido, but with any luck we should have a core of decent talent coming through in time for the Euros in two years time. The likes of Adam Johnson, Joe Hart, Jermaine Beckford, Danny Sturridge, Gosling, Welbeck, Rodwell, Muamba, Delph, Smalling etc. should have a chance to grow and develop in the next few years, so fingers crossed, things can only get better!
fifthcolumnblue
I agree fcb, all those names have the potential, they need more game time both at club and international levels. They will have the right coach to guide them over the next coupe of years at least.
elvido
Jermaine Beckford? Really?
tuscan3000
Jury's out on Beckford at the moment, but now that he's going to be playing in the PL for Everton we'll see if he's got what it takes. Plenty of potential, I reckon he could become a very good player. I'm sure you lot don't have a particularly high opinion of him after the FA cup this season though! ;)
fifthcolumnblue
Im nto sur whether you're aware of this but Beckford is 26 there may be a bit of improvement but the years of development have nearly passed him.
TheFamousNo7
not sure*

I hope he makes the most of this lucky opportunity that has been given to him.I would have taken Parker over him if I'm honest but I do hope he does well and gives us hope for next season.
Antriksh (abmtd)
Parker does not have the big game experience that Carrick has and if he can turn his form around, Carrick can perform in the role of a quarter back pretty well.
