United - Moderate Modric Interest!

We know Sir Alex is only supposed to be signing just one more player this season but the media are playing one hell of a game deciding who that player will be?

One suggestion, published in recent days, is that Sir Alex wanted the Spurs playmaker, Luka Modric, with a reputed bid of circa £25 million being prepared.

Such a suggestion has forced Harry Redknapp to come out and deny that any such deal will happen with the Spurs boss remarking to the media,

"There`s no chance of it happening at all. Luka`s key to everything that`s happening at this place."

"Everybody knows what I think of him."

"And if you want to move on to higher levels you don`t start flogging off your best players to anyone."

"I have an excellent squad and I stress Luka Modric is going to remain a part of it."

Are you sure of that Harry, 100% sure?

Yep, that seals it for me. I never really thought spurs would give up one of their best players now that they are in the champions league, but the fact that harry has come out so strongly means it definitely wont happen now. Tottenham will not risk weakening their squad, upsetting their manager and fans just for the sake of £25m. I'm glad thats over with. We need a creative midfielder, but preferably one that scores as well.

I just feel it will be some unknown player,at first I must admit I thought SAF might go for Milner but at that price tag,its unlikely that we will go for him.Yesterday I saw us being linked with some unknown brazilian,Paulo Henrique I guess and to tell u the truth, I feel there can be more truth in such rumours because its just unlikely that we will buy players at the silly prices being quoted at the moment.

Plus if we have a look at our reserve and also our academy, there are players like Pogba,Petrucci,W.Keane(Fabio Capello seems to be keeping a close on eye on him)then there is Norwood who along side C.Evans has been noted down by SAF to give them a taste of first team action next season and as I always say that these players are very lucky to have SAF as the manager because he will give them a chance to prove their worth sooner rather than later.

Modric is a very good player but doesn't seem to score a lot and Spurs won't sell him...

A great player but yea goalwise for that money we could do so much better. I'd rather us not get bumped by spurs again.

lol - Berbatov Syndrome fear isn't it!
merlin
queue the excuses.. modric doesn't score enough, we can get better players, blah blah blah..
hardcore_spurs
Too bloody right merlin! Spurs only sell damaged goods! Sure carrick worked well for us for 3 years - but look at him now! They've swindled us for over £50m in recent years so as far as I'm concerned they can keep him. There are no excuses here, modric is a good player but isnt the top of anyones wish list - sorry if that hurts your ego but its true. Whilst we need someone with his creativity we also need some bloody goals!
tuscan3000
tusc, it is not the case of hurt egos. i remember that some people on this forum had a shortlist of creative players that could possibly grace OT, and modric was on it. he would not have been on that list if people thought if we was not worthy enough to play at OT. as for goals, fear not. the own goals will again be one of your most regular contributors.
hardcore_spurs
Modric is quality, I think everyone agrees about that. I was only making the point that whilst we could use a player like him - it doesnt HAVE to be him. Factoring in the price tag, now that harry has come out guns blazing about keeping him and the fact he doesnt score regularly - I'd be glad if we went for someone else. Obviously if we buy someone who isnt as good, is more expensive or scores less - I'll be gutted about missing out.
