'If It's Football, It's Vital'

United - Van der Vaart Raid!

Sir Alex has intimated that there will be only one further addition to the United squad and today one red-top has declared who they think it might be.

Apparently, we have a vested interest in the Dutch playmaker, currently plying his trade with Real Madrid, Rafael Van der Vaart.

Van der Vaart hasn`t fully established himself at the Bernabou and the impending arrival of Jose Mourinho may well see the Dutchman move on.

At twenty-seven years old he should be in the prime of his career and according to the red-top is just the sort of playmaker United are looking for.

But, and it is a big but, one thing troubles me. Whilst I accept he is a talented player can somebody explain to me why the price quoted now is circa £20 million when the same gossip columns had him available for as little as £10 million a matter of months ago?

A very talented player, who is versatile, more or less like sneijder,so if we can get him it would be fantastic, way better than Milner as far as attack is concerned.Lets hope RM make another mistake and sell him for cheap.

I guess we will have to wait for Mourinho to arrive first and then if he is fine with his sale, only then we can have a good chance of getting him.He did have a good end to the season,so I'm not exactly sure if they are even willing to sell him unless Mourinho has a target in his mind.Between 13-17million,I guess this would be enough.
Antriksh (abmtd)
Not for £20m. He is slow and is pretty much worse than sneijder in everyway. For £10m I'd take him, but there are a whole raft of players I'd rather see.
tuscan3000
Also a target for Chelsea I beleive - but over-rated at that price!
Al Billy
Definitely not worth anything above ten, he was being touted at around half of what it cost for Sneijder last year, who BTW we missed out on big time!
elvido
so are we agreed he'd be a good buy for £10 million?
Red Boy
Red Boy, he would be an amazing buy for 10 mil on his day an absolutely amazing player. But noone is wrong in saying he isnt worth much more, performance wise and that.
TheFamousNo7
I think every team in the premier league missed out on Sneijder elvido!

Well, he won't be going for £10m now we've apparently entered the race. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-1281816/Manchester-City-swoop-Real-Madrid-stars-Higuain-Van-der-Vaart-Gago.html?ITO=1490

Based on Carrick's abysmal performance, our necessities seem higher, but I get what you're saying, tuscan. FCB, you were in the race for Kaka too, he still went to a club that paid almost half of what you offered, guess there are more factors than money for footballers. :O
elvido
Not saying he'll sign for us, just that you won't be getting him on the cheap now that we've entered the race. Seems we're also in talks for Edin Dzeko now as well. Wasn't he one of your targets too?
fifthcolumnblue
Touted by the media as one of our targets, unless we get rid of Berba, I don't see us spending a lot on a striker.... He is a good player but the kind of money they are talking would mean requiring immediate results and he wouldn't want to sit out in the big games when we play 4-5-1
