United - Evans Missed Chance!

Reflecting on last season, our Irish international defender, Jonny Evans has rued a missed opportunity.

With the United defence decimated, at times, by injury and with Michael Carrick and Darren Fletcher having to fill in on one occasion, Evans sees it as a missed opportunity to establish himself, on a permanent basis, as one of our centre backs.

Speaking to the media, this is what Jonny had to say,

"It was so frustrating because I picked up a few niggling injuries."

"It was annoying that with players like Rio Ferdinand and Nemnja Vidic out injured as well; there were chances to get in and get a few games under your belt."

"There were windows of opportunities I couldn`t take because I was sidelined."

Despite the missed opportunity, Jonny has set himself a milestone, on the back of his new four deal he recently put pen to paper, a deal that will see him stay at the club and try to make that crucial breakthrough he yearns for, with Jonny commenting,

"By the end of it, I`d like to be one of the first names on the team sheet."

Jonny will be twenty-six at the end of his new contract and we`d hope that if the breakthrough is coming it most certainly will have happened by then!

If he is first choice when Rio or Vidic is injured - I would expect him to play more games in total than either of them.

He has looked comfortable more often than not, I do hope he gets more games than Rio this season.

A very good defender and i doubt he will overall rue these chances in the long run

Rio will give him enough time on the pitch,he doesn't have to worry about it.Just continue doing the good work.
