United - James Milner Would Be?

With our neighbours hell bent on breaking the bank to secure the services of the Aston Villa and England midfielder James Milner, it became almost inevitable that the name of Manchester United would be linked with a possible interest in buying him as well.

Therefore, here behind the editorial desk, we thought that`d provide the perfect poll for our front page - James Milner Would Be? - with three options to choose from.

The votes were quite evenly cast with only 14% between the highest percentage and the lowest percentage.

But the winner, with 40% of the vote was the option over-priced and not worth it followed home with a good buy with 34% of the vote and with tour third option, a great buy trailing home with 26% of the vote.

Judging by his performance, in midfield, alongside Michael Carrick for England, we`d say the majority got it just about right!

I would say he is better than Carrick,if I only take the season that has just finished. Before that Carrick was fantastic for us and I wouldn't even think about selling him.The question is how much better can Milner get?Players like VDV,Silva,Costa,Krasic can still be considered and would be better than Milner when it comes to only attacking. So it depends on SAF,lets see what he does.

Spoit on- If he wasn't English, there would be waaaay less hype and a reasonable price of 15-20 million. Pity.

The way SAF has a knack of surprising us,I wouldn't be surprised to see him sign Ronaldinho as a short term solution.

This will sound crazy to most - but I would LOVE if we signed Ronaldinho. I know he is a fat, lazy party boy now - but Ronaldinho at his worst is still ridiculously awesome compared to most players in the premier league. His vision, range of passing and set pieces would be ideal for us even if he has lost all his pace and doesnt defend. Stick Hargreaves and Fletcher in the middle with Ronaldinho in behind Rooney and he wouldnt have to defend anyway.

:) Tuscan, if we can make do with an Owen then a Ronaldinho would be quite all right too. But the thing is we already have one man slowing our pace with Berba, wouldn't want the two on the pitch at the same. And god forbid with Berba, Scholes, Giggs playing at the same time!!

Gents..James Milner is a very good player who will get better BUT he will only leave Villa for a stupid bid well above what he is really worth. I cannot see SAF paying stupid money (or player exchange) but I can see Citeh doing it. We do not want to lose him, but every player does have his price (Ronaldo?). IMO he would improve your team, but not to the extent of the amount of money Villa will demand before they consider selling him.

Dear lord, you're not actually considering Goofy are you? He was past his best two seasons ago when City were trying to sign him, so does anyone actually think he'd cope with the pace of the Premier League nowadays after his seasons in the relative tranquility of Serie A? Must say, one of the biggest reliefs of this season is that City have NOT been linked to Ronaldinho! And as to Milner, he's exactly what Manyoo need, and he would fit in quite nicely with the new Uefa rules regarding English players. However, he is vastly overpriced for just that reason, and we appear to be the only club willing to pay such over inflated prices. Besides, I'm sure Milner has come out and indicated a preference for the Scousers and that mucst surely blot his copybook with you lot!

fcb, I would not want Goofy in our team at all, and my I would prefer Rodwell over Milner any day! Milner reminds me of very polished Gibson, and he struggled on the midfield for England and he would cost too much for what he brings to the team.

I think its laughable that you guys would write off Ronaldinho so easily. He isnt as fast as he was, but he is still quicker than Berba. Ronaldinho has just turned 30. Where is this idea coming from that 30 is retirement age. For me anyone aged 28 to 30 is at the peak of their career. Barring injury, I cant see any reason for the modern footballer to start winding down their career before the age of 33. Ronaldinhos attitude is obviously questionable which is why we'd never go for him - but in terms of pure ability he is a better player than most in this league.

tuscan, i was not saying what i did so much for his age but about his attitude, he has never look like he has bothered about defending at all! He is good when he is nearer the box, but we'll be a player down every time we lose the ball.

In games where we've played giggs, scholes, carrick and berbatov we might as well have been 3 or 4 men down for all the legs they've got. A midfield 5 with Nani, Valencia, Fletcher and Hargreaves would not require any defending from Ronaldinho - not forgetting how much Rooney likes to put a shift in. But anyway, it'll never happen, I think he could end up at City though - they'd love a big name.

The thing is when Ronaldo played, most of the others had pretty much only defending to do, unless Goofy can bring that level of football on a regular basis, he would be more of distraction to the team, unless we get him on a free and use him as a Hail Mary! Far as the bitters, well, they do try to get big names, guess it's a good thing they didn't qualify, money and CL opportunities would make the market even tougher!

Milner will never go to Utd, he doesn't fancy it all, more likely go to City of Liverpool. Good player but way overpriced.
