'If It's Football, It's Vital'

United - Ferdinand Captain`s England!

After the shenanigans involving John Terry and his subsequent removal from the post of England captain, tonight is a historic moment for Rio Ferdinand.

With England set to entertain Mexico in the last home friendly before the 2010 World Cup starts in South Africa, Rio will get the chance to lead England out after Fabio Capello confirmed his status in training ahead of the game.

Rio, talking about the situation, had this to say about captaining England and how he learned his ambition was to be realised,

"The manager told the lads before training that I was the captain and that was nice."

"The manager is the way he is, there`s no song and dance about anything."

"It`s just 'He`s captain` that`s it, move on and let`s talk about what is going on in training. I like that."

"People have talked about me being England captain but until I put the armband on I won`t have the feeling of enjoyment."

"When I am out there as England captain, then I`ll be able to enjoy it a bit more."

Hopefully, the team will provide the performance and result to make it a really memorable occasion.

Not really a big deal, a big improvement on Tiny Tears though!
