'If It's Football, It's Vital'

United - Rio on Scholes

Paul Scholes will not be on the plane to South Africa, Paul Scholes decided that the World Cup wasn`t enough to tempt him out of international football.

It`s his prerogative!

Unlike Jamie Carragher who watched everyone else do the hard work and chose to return but will probably walk away from international football after the tournament!

However, Rio Ferdinand believes that Scholes would have been a valuable asset to the squad, in South Africa, remarking,

"I would have paid him to come to South Africa."

"That`s no detriment to any of the other players but I think Scholesy would have added to the squad we have."

"I spoke to him but he is a very black-and-white character. No frills, no messing about."

"He thought about it with his family and came to his decision."

"Scholesy isn`t the type of person who, if we do really well at the tournament, would have it burning away at him." He will be comfortable with the decision he`s made."

"It`s not to be, he`s not coming so we move on."

I guess Scholes contentment from spending time with his family means more to him in the twilight years of his career and who can blame him!
