United - Wembley Pitch on Trial?

It`ll be interesting tonight to see if, during the friendly against Mexico, whether the Wembley pitch claims any more victims.

On Saturday, during the Championship play-off final, Gary Taylor-Fletcher turned an ankle and had to leave the pitch. Later he was to criticize the Wembley turf blaming the shoddy pitch for his injury.

After having been re-laid numerous times, it`s obvious that there is some kind of problem with the surface and several leading names, including that of the ex-England captain John Terry, have questioned the mentality of using Wembley for so many events.

The footballing purists amongst us would like nothing more than to see the stadium used purely for football, something Rio Ferdinand agrees when pressed by the media,

"I believe that certainly. It should be a football stadium - that`s what it was built as."

"If there`s things going on there that make it a bad pitch to play on, that hinders the spectacle that is the football match - FA Cup Final, play-offs."

"If that hinders it, maybe a decision needs to be made in that sense. But there are stadiums all around the world that are used for different things and they seem to get it right, so we need to look at it."

Tonight, we`ll get another chance to see how it behaves, please don`t let it be responsible for destroying somebody`s dream of going to South Africa 2010!

The players will have to be careful,I don't think everyone will be giving their best except those whose places are not promised but most of them will be very cautious in their running, tackling, etc.I thought they could have played the game somewhere else, somewhere safer,u don't want to be losing players just before the tournament begins.

I hope Chicharito gets out unharmed, wouldn't want another injury before our season starts!
elvido
I think it was clear most of them were holding back.

And Cicharito looks quite all right, would need to bulk up though......

To tell u the truth Elvido,I don't think we will see the best of Chicharito in a Mexico shirt,I'm sorry but they just don't have the players in my view, credit to him,he was making clever little runs but no one could pick him out,if he had played in the first half, things could have been a bit different.
Antriksh (abmtd)
He seems a good player, i guess the preseason games should be a good indicator of what we can expect of him.
elvido
I've got the answer an artificial pitch!
