United - Only One Signing!

It threatens to be a relatively quiet summer, in the transfer market, for Manchester United!

Despite the media linking United with a plethora of signings, Sir Alex looks set to continue the current trend of bring through his youngsters to galvanise the first team.

Now whether this is due to the fact that money is tight in the current financial downturn or whether Sir Alex has seen enough to convince him the talent coming through is good enough; is debatable.

But, it looks like, at best, United will only be signing one player this summer with Sir Alex quoted in the morning media as having remarked,

"In today`s market it`s very difficult and the structure of our squad is good in terms of ages, balance and numbers. There are a lot of good young players."

"Sometimes you have to trust in all the development of the last few years and I`m going to stick with that - or most of it."

"There may be one signing and maybe we`d like to get a good player to the club, of course but it`s not easy in the present-day climate."

If it is one signing and one signing only, to accompany Smalling and Hernandez into Old Trafford, who should United be targeting?

A goalkeeper, presumably?

It has to be a midfielder,a player who can offer creativity in the middle of the park.

We will simply be waiting for City, Chelsea, Madrid and Barca to finish shopping. Then we'll look for that creative spark we need choosing between who is left out of Silva, Di Maria, Modric, Ribery and Joe Cole. Once the big spenders have had their fill prices will become more realistic.

We wont end up signing anybody. I still think Fergie has got alot of faith in Anderson, as do I, therefore i can't see us signing a midfielder. We do need another amazing forward to support Rooney when were on the attack but once again Fergie has alot of faith in what weve already got. And in my opinion we have one of the best defenses in the world only second to Inter's. A goalie would be nice a position which we really shouldnt be cheap on but i cant see a new keeper being bought any time soon.

Our defence and GK situation are absolutely fine. Up front we can probably afford take a risk on the likes of Diouf, Hernandez, Welbeck, Macheda, Owen and Berba stepping up. Even on the wings we have Nani, Valencia, Obertan, Giggs, Park and maybe Tosic - so we arent exactly struggling their either. But in the middle, even with anderson fit - the only goal scorers we have in the middle are Gibson and Cleverley. The attacking support through the middle has been non-existant this year and is the one glaringly obvious position where we are in desperate need of a change. If we only buy one player this summer it has to be one that can cause the opposition problems through the middle whether that be with flair, goals, assists, set pieces or all of the above - we need someone to provide a bit of variety to the way we score goals.

we only need a striker, creative midfielder is good an all but we dont have a room for one... we must get a fast striker and a proven one
