United - Internationals Courted!

Right! Who makes these up?

The tabloid journalists certainly have a sense of humour. Today the gossip columns have United linked with two internationals currently plying their trade on the continent.

One is currently under contract with the German Champions Bayern Munich and the other with the Italian Champions Inter Milan.

Is it just a coincidence that they`ll be on opposite sides in the Champions League Final this Saturday?

As for their identities, one is the Bayern Munich Franck Ribery who the journalists suggest is to be the target of a massive £50 million from United whilst the second is the Inter Milan player Esteban Cambiasso for a much more respectable £18 million.

Now I can possibly see where the interest in the Argentine international is coming from but surely, with our current financial status there`ll be no way the owners would contemplate spending £50 million on one single player, is there?

However, in the land of wishful thinking, who would you prefer?

I dont think Ribery is talented enought to be worth £50m. A fee that is made even more ridiculous by the fact that he is in the last year of his contract. Anyone who pays more than £20m for a 26 year old, injury prone, prima donna, in the last year of his contract, who has never done anything of note in England, Spain or Italy - is frankly being ripped off.

We're being linked to a lot of defensive midfielders which casts doubt of Hargreaves' future. I think cambiasso is a good player, but we havent really had much luck with Argentinians. In fact, if he asks for references, I cant see Veron, Heinze, Tevez, Mascherano, Maradonna or Messi having anything good to say about us. Although the fact that he isnt in the world cup squad and that Mourinho could be our next manager might help us land him.

I wouldnt be too bothered if we didnt sign either, but if the prices were right I'd take em both. I prefer cambiasso though as he seems to have less of an attitude problem.

There are two maybe three players who are worth that kind of money and all three play in the Spanish league. On this year's performance, Robben seemed a better player than Ribery. And wouldn't want a player who doesn't want to be here. The older Cambiasso is good but doesn't add any creative intent to our midfield, unless we get him on the cheap!

Ribery for 50 million? A player who's never played in England, for 50 million? It'll probably be worse than the Berba transfer.
DubaiSpur
does the £50 million include the baggage he slept with?
merlin
if we're prepared to pay that for Ribery why did we let Ronaldo go!
Red Boy
I don't think we are "prepared" to spend any money, leave alone those amounts.
elvido
We wont spend that amount on Ribery and the reasons for Ronaldo leaving were nothing to do with finances on our part.
tuscan3000
700 million of crushing debt.. Gill said in an interview that you lot will have no problems, especially with the improved commercial deals, of PAYING THE INTEREST.
JT_daniel
That ought to worry anybody, seriously.
JT_daniel
It ought JT ... but it doesn't. Bayern can keep Ribery or let him rot at Real i really couldnt care either way. Way too much risk for way too little to gain. Out of the two i would definately pick Cambiasso but if I had the choice i wouldn't pick either if Hargos coming back then Cambiasso in a sense would be a waste of money on a position that no longer needs filling.
TheFamousNo7
The situation with the debt is obviously not ideal, but only becomes a real worry if the TV money bubble bursts. At that point our revenues will no longer be enough to cover our debt payments. Until then we cant worry about it as we cant do anything about it.
tuscan3000
I don't want players here just because they are world class. We have a system of playing here and a particular kind of attitude that we look for in players. Buying players for the sake of it would be useless. We have enough strength in depth and if a few players step up this year we will have the quality too!
