United - Keeper Link Surfaces!

United - Keeper Link Surfaces!

Edwin Van der Sar isn`t getting any younger and with Ben Foster looking to leave to get regular first team football, United are in the market for another keeper.

Well that`s what the Sunday tabloids will have you believe and to assist us they`ve even come up with the name of somebody they believe Sir Alex is keen to get their hands on.

Steve Mandanda, who has just helped Marseille to the French title, is the man in question.

At twenty-five years of age he`s ready to step into first team action and would cost in the region of £10 million.

Anybody else think it`s a bit steep for a keeper?

Or can anyone else suggest another target?

"Naturally I should be staying in Marseille next season but you never know," Mandanda told JDD Newspaper.
"I've not had any contact with any club but all know my dream is to play in the Premier League.
"I've heard Manchester United are looking for a goalkeeper. My name isn't on their list, but you never know."

We've been linked with Neuer, Adler, Lloris, Buffon, Frey and now Mandanda. At £10m he would definately be the cheapest of the lot. The key to buying a GK for big money is to buy one that you think wont leave. £10m for a keeper that could play for another 15 years is cheap. I think between Fergie and the goalkeeping coaches they'll make the right decision on who is best in terms of talent, price and longevity. After what happened after the Great Dane retired, I cant see fergie messing about this time.

Mandanda - 6'1" - 36 games - 68 saves - 13 clean sheets
Lloris - 6'2" - 36 games - 118 saves - 15 clean sheets
Neuer - 6'3" - 34 games - 85 saves - 15 clean sheets
Adler - 6'3" - 31 games - 59 saves - 10 clean sheets
Frey - 6'2" - 36 games - 121 saves - 8 clean sheets
Buffon - 6'3" - 27 games - 69 saves - 7 clean sheets

I'd prefer Lloris or Neuer. Both are younger, taller, made more saves this season and kept more clean sheets.

This was always going to happen with Ben Foster close to moving to Birmingham. My personal choice would be Buffon,I always feel with keepers its better to go for experience and with him played at the highest level for so many years,he would be an ideal signing.

If Utd are looking for a fresh, young face then I do agree with tuscan that Lloris or Neuer would make great keepers for our club and they would be my first choice in that aspect.

Apparently Buffon got subbed at half time when juve were losing 3-0 to AC milan. He's also apparently had real bad injury problems recently. For the price (considering Juve are talking about exchanging him for Van Persie - I'd say they expect at least £20m) I'd rather go for somebody else.

All the keepers you're linked with are at fairly big clubs who arent cash-strapped so they can still negotiate where as athletico madrid need finances plus have another emerging keeper.Asenjo is perfect for you,at 20 gives van der sar another year & wont complain about taking a backseat for sometime.Mandanda, lloris etc will expect a starting role.

Going by those stats, Lloris or Neuer seem the better bets.

Lloirs - on his day - is world class! But not as good as Cech!
