United - Rooney Loses Out!

Despite a fantastic season the Golden Boot eluded Wayne Rooney.

Having already won a clutch of personal awards, Wayne was beaten to the Golden Boot by the very person he beat into second place for the PFA and Football Writers awards, Didier Drogba.

Any remaining ambition Wayne had of matching Drogba stride for stride disappeared when Wayne limped off with a reoccurrence of a groin injury.

Thankfully though, the injury isn`t considered to be serious enough to cause Fabio Capello any sleepless nights with Sir Alex declaring, post match,

"He`s aggravated his groin again, but I don`t think it`s too serious. I think he will be okay for England."

If Sir Alex is wrong, which he rarely is, then England`s World Cup hopes will be seriously affected.

Was there any doubt about this? Didi is the best!! The injury evened things up a bit at the end, with Didi missing a month at the ACoN and all.

In ur dreams pal.. Didi is a good footballer. He s not in the bracket of MEssi , Ronaldo , Rooney. We all saw wat lucio did to him. He ll score only where he can bully the defence. He s good. But not great. Rooney s a more complete player than drogba ever was. He s 32 dude.. He s losing it. Rooney can be compared only with Nistelrooy in his peak. Drog never was RVN or never will be.

Rooney's class but he's nowhere near the same class as Messi or Ronaldo. Drogba has been the better striker this season, goals and assists.

There seems to be this belief that Rooney does more than just score and, well, that Drogba doesn't. Not even close to being accurate. Didi scored more goals in less fixtures and was undoubtedly the deciding factor against the top four. To say that Rooney is better is to ignore a multitude of examples in which he isn't. Time to debunk the myth, in particular, that Didi doesn't work his pants off, defend, make goals for others, and so forth.

Rooney is a splendid player, but I'll take Drogfor now. Rooney is not better......Drog scored more goals.....mush more assisits.....and only one penalty. Dont use that Luciu excuse, they fouled and battered him all game without any ref help. Every single Chelsea payer played horrible that game and to single out Drog in that game only makes you lool stupid. And please dont gibe yourself so much credit by saying Rooney is as good as Messi cuz he's not. Drog all the way.....

Drogba has scored more goals this season and is the more experienced campaigner but Rooney is a better team player any day! Drogba has played his part this season with defending corners and it would be foolish to argue that he is not one of the best strikers around! But the who's better argument is always subjective, all these players have different roles in their team, pointless debate......

Exactly....they're both one of the best strikers in the world and only the likes of Torres can say the same. Both very crucial for their team and both. Drog helps out so much and his assists and overall team play one of the best......at his best none has been able to contain him.

United, we are now your champions. We have more authority than you. Finally, after three years.

Lets not be silly, Rooney is not even close to being in the same class as Ronaldo and Messi. Didier Drogba is a better striker than wayne rooney we cant deny that. You can look at any number of stats and see that for a top striker - rooney is one of the most wasteful strikers out there (compared to the likes of drogba, torres, villa etc). Rooney has a great all round game but so does Drogba. Drogba is stronger, faster, more clinical, better in the air and can take free kicks. But I'd rather have rooney in my team. With Rooney having 8 years less experience and less accurate shooting he only finished 3 goals behind him thanks to a final day hattrick. Whilst Drogba is currently at his peak with his abilities only likely to become less effective, Rooney is far from peaking and is only getting better. Drogba deserves his golden boot. Over the next few years I'd be suprised if rooney doesnt get his hands on a least one.

I would rather have both in my team than face either!! Percentages on form point to Drogba but Rooney has almost a decade at the top level to improve (injuries notwithstanding)

Agree with everyone about Rooney not being any where near Messi and Ronaldo. However I do believe that Rooney is a better player than Drogba. If you look at all the long range passing, the vision the skill, and even the strength to match Drogba he is also willing to put in a defensive shift much like Drogba. There is definately more to Rooney's game than just the goals he scores/creates than there is to Drogbas.

I bet Wayne is glad he got the other more touching personal accolades though!
