United - Who Is Your Preferred Choice?

United - Who Is Your Preferred Choice?

During the last week or so, the media have linked us with several players, however, two of the many names that crop up in the same sentence as United both intrigue me.

For some reason the acquisition of either Nicolas Anelka or Joe Cole appeals to me.

The media have implied that Anelka could be snapped up for a bargain £8 million while Joe Cole is a completely free agent come this summer and would arrive on a free transfer.

Anelka, although reputedly close to signing a new deal at Chelsea, could be the ideal foil for Wayne Rooney whereas the skilful Cole, said to be lined up in case a move for Modric flounders, is, on his day, a match-winner as his outrageous goal at Old Trafford recently proved.

But, and here is where I need your involvement, which of the two, if you could pick one, would you prefer to see in our red shirt?

Nicolas Anelka or Joe Cole?

More Cole than Anelka, would come free, can play the creative mid role and fits the 4-5-1 and the local quota!

I might sound harsh but J.Cole has been an embarassment at chelsea after his injury, the only thing he has done is score that goal,I would pick Milner over him any day,as he has been fantastic this season,is still very young, fills the local quota plus is versatile but seeing that he is FREE,there is a good chance we might go for him.

I hope the striker is anything but young,we already have 4 young strikers and it does not include Wayne.

We should have a look at VDV as well,he might prove to be something close to Wesley.

I hope merlin is right. I wouldnt want anelka anyway and signing joe cole on a free would indicate we'd hit rock bottom in terms of our targets. I would think our targets fall into 4 groups - a striker, a creative mid, a box-to-box mid and a goalkeeper. Our striking targets will benzema, higuain, and suarez. Our creative mid targets will be modric, silva, jovetic and joe cole. Our box-to-box targets will be milner, rodwell and toure. Our goalkeeping targets will be Neuer, Lloris and Akinfeev. I can't see us signing more than two of those to be honest. Whilst I'd like benzema and jovetic we're more likely to try for Milner and joe cole :(

Wouldn't want a striker coming in that stops the development of the youngsters here. A creative midfielder is a must though. If we have to deal with the quota issue, I guess Milner would be a better option than a Modric or a Jovetic. Silva can play across the midfield and is experienced at the highest level. I am not enthusiastic about Cole or Anelka but if we don't have the money then I know which of those two i would want to see here!
