'If It's Football, It's Vital'

United - Is Sir Alex Mellowing?

At the annual Manchester United awards last night, Wayne Rooney deservedly picked up the player of the year award.

In doing so it makes a fine triple with Wayne having already scooped the PFA and Football Writers awards.

At the ceremony, Sir Alex, always pursued by the media, gave an insight into how he`s mellowed slightly with age.

When asked about an inquest if we fail to land the Premier League title, he pointed out,

"I used to look at every game but you can torture yourself with that."

"We lost at Burnley at the start of the season. That was three points and we also missed a penalty."

"If we had of scored that we might have won or at least got a draw that might have made a difference."

"We had a couple of refereeing decisions against Chelsea. You could look at all these things."

"You can twist and torture yourself but it happens."

"We get breaks ourselves sometimes."

To me it looks as if the defining moment in his eyes was that result at Turf Moor.

Anyone agree or disagree?

There are a lot of things you can look back at when things don't work in your favour but if I had to pick,I wouldn't be picking the Burnley game,I would look at our home games against AV,Sunderland plus the biggest game of all,the one against Chelsea, there was so much riding on that game and we were so flat, which in my honest opinion was SAF's mistake in the team selection.

The only difference between Chelsea and Utd is their performance against the other big 3 as both have struggled against lesser opposition at some stage of the season.

i believe Chelsea have taken 18 points, a maximum in games against us, Arsneal and Cesspool!

and even more, they've scored 12 and only let 1 in - that's why we're lagging behind them!

There are a few results which stick out such as Burnley, Sunderland, Fulham and Villa in the first half of the season. But in truth once all of that was done, we had our fate in our own hands during the chelsea game. If we could have at least drawn either of our games with them this season we would be top now. Our squad has proven it is good enough to compete for the title (even when it is depleted) but we've also proven that when it comes to winning against other top teams it takes a little bit more quality than we've already got. This summer we need at least two top quality players or we need the likes of Nani, Valencia, Chicharito and Anderson to REALLY step up.

Winning the title with the players leaving and the injuries we had would have been a great achievement! I am glad that Valencia, Rafael, Nani have performed well this season, bodes well for the future!
