'If It's Football, It's Vital'

A United Without Scholes?

A United squad without Paul Scholes in would be a strange thing to envisage.

But, it transpires that Paul, who famously doesn`t court interviews, wanted to walk away from football after this Sunday`s finale against Stoke.

It appears it took the wit and wisdom of Sir Alex to persuade Paul that he had a minimum of another year in his legs.

Fergie takes up the story,

"I did speak to him.'"

"He'd intimated that he may retire at the end of the season."

"I said, 'I'll decide when you retire.....look, Paul, you can play there's no question of that. Your ability's there, there's no deterioration in your actual play."

"When you get to his age, and the same goes for Ryan Giggs and Gary Neville, there's a deterioration in the physical aspect of it. That's natural. We all face that. But in terms of his ability, there's no deterioration whatsoever."

"In fact, Paul's every bit as good, if not even better, because the experience he's added to the ability he's got means he's a big asset to us - as he was against City. He helped to control the match."

It looks like Sir Alex has pulled it out of the bag again!

He's still the best Central Mid Ingurland has, says a lot dunnit? I meant skill and vision wise...

Says a lot about your prospects that Fergie is having to beg your ageing players to stay on. Desparate times.

Hmmmm. Are you talking about the desperation in your voice? At least your manager realises that you can't go places without having someone who can guide you because they already have been there! Your "PV" investment was more to show your mercenaries how to win and be part of a larger ambition. We already have superstars of that ilk and of course being United, we don't need to buy experience or history, seeing as how we have bucket loads of both. Go spread your bitterness someplace else. And BTW wasn't an "ageing" player responsible for our latest victory over you! They stay because they have a bond with the club not cheque books!

There are times when even legends have to hang up their boots or they start to becomke liabilities and the fans turn against you.

I think Giggs, Scholes and Neville will stick around for one last season, by which point, Rio, Brown, Fletcher and OShea will takeover as the senior citizens of the squad. They'll want to finish their careers with one last bit of major silverware but should play a significantly reduced role next year if everyone is fit.
tuscan3000
Their presence is a plus off the field as much as cameo appearances on it will be next season.
elvido
There is no problem even if they play a reduced role on the pitch because off it they will still be massive influences on our younger players.Foe example the likes of Rafael,Gibson and even Nani can still learn so much from Gary,Scholesy and Giggsy and the education from these players cannot be bought at any players.

if you don't want Scholes, we'll snap him up!

Sorry,I meant at any price.

I don't think you'll find a single United fan who wouldn't want Scholes in the squad!
