Vuckic, Milner: They're United's Realistic Options

Vuckic, Milner: They're United's Realistic Options

Obviously there's not much in common with Haris Vuckic and James Milner, two attacking midfielders we've been linked with in recent weeks. While the former is only a hot prospect, the latter is an established player of proven quality.

However, the point is that United will go for these types of players. Forget Karim Benzema Joe Cole, and Rafael van der Vaart - we're unlikely to pay the wages they would demand, not to mention the hefty transfer fee in case of Benzema. No, we'll either sign youngsters with nothing but potential or good players who are not considered top class but might just possess the talent to make it to the very top.

It does not necessarily mean that our prime targets will be Milner and Vuckic but they are perfect examples. Sir Alex hinted at only one or two summer signings, apart from Smalling and Hernandez of course, and also implied that we'll be looking for young players who can still develop. Vuckic would fit the bill perfectly and so would Milner who has yet to take his game to the next level.

The point is, don't expect 'big' names like Joe Cole, David Silva or Van der Vaart - that's not we'll be looking for. And if Berbatov leaves don't expect him to be replaced by Luis Fabiano, David Villa or Edin Dzeko. Young players with potential, that's what we'll get.

Is a Van der Vaart that much better than a Milner anyways? Would rather stick with proven domestic lads. The work ethic is usually a guarantee. Better Fergie gambling on potential than superstars!!

United will prove that you can be the best with homegrown players

Thing is Milner will cost us more than £20m - maybe even £25m. As good as he is I think that money would be better spent on a player with more quality. Gourcuff is said to have a buy-out clause that is around 25m euros and surely Hamsik could be bought for a similar fee. Whilst I agree that once all the speculation is over with we'll probably end up bringing in what amounts to second rate players with potential - whats the point in doing that if we're still paying top dollar for them? Also if our choices up front revolve around Huntelaar and Fabiano - I'd rather keep Berba. Huntelaar is just berba without the skill and Fabiano is just Berba without the fitness.

Barce beat Real with 7 homegrown players, we do not need to buy big.. Our reserves have just won their league, lets put the trust in the future superstars, and not pay City money for established stars. Glazers have limited the spending regardless of what is being said, so Fergie will never be able to buy Benzema, Villa, Silva, and why should we, Nani will come good, Macheda is about to break through etc. Lets put our trust in the youth.

Also, if Joe Cole does leave Chelsea - City will offer him crazy wages and Spurs will offer him the chance to stay in london - I would think whichever of them offers champions league football will have the advantage. However, I cant see us not trying to sign him on a free - which destination he choose will depend on what he values most - money, location or trophies.

I am not for us buying Milner anyways, not at those prices! would rather see Gourcouff, Defour, Hamsik or Hazard. There's no second guessing Fergie though!

Jovetic even? He seems a very good player and already proven in Europe. Well against the scousers at least.

villa fan in peace, i hope milner does not leave us yet. However you are looking at least 30mill before mon would consider. Remember lescott went for 24mill, we wanted 24 mill for barry when the scouse came looking. So milner your looking at least 30mill. We are going to offer jimmy a new deal, which will be like 80-90k, so who ever wants him would have to match that and more.

£30m for James Milner!!! Hopefully Villa do ask for that kind of money and we look elsewhere. I'd be gutted if we pay that kind of money for him.
