Villa Is No. 1 On Fergie's Transfer List

Villa Is No. 1 On Fergie's Transfer List

OK, the most incomprehensible transfer rumour just won't go away. It is about Manchester United signing David Villa in the summer. Frankly, I don't get it.

David Villa will turn 29 this year. He would cost about 35M with hefty wages, too. He would want to be a fixture in the first team which is difficult, considering that our most successful formation seems to be 4-3-3 and Rooney is unlikely to be shifted from the centre-forward position.

Villa can attack from wide positions as well but that alone should not make this rumour credible. He's expensive and at that price he's old as well. Definitely not a Fergie signing.

Of course he's not the only one we're being linked with. Joe Cole is still on the radar as he cannot come to an agreement with Chelsea - eventually he will, I'm sure. Then there is David Silva for whom I would be prepared to kill but somehow I don't think he'll go anywhere else but Real or Barcelona.

The Di María rumours have gone a bit quiet recently but there is speculation about Schalke keeper Manuel Neuer (he would be a brilliant signing) or Lyon goalie Hugo Lloris, another fine prospect. And we are also tipped to make a cheeky bid for Chelsea target Rafael van der Vaart who's only a squad player at Madrid but his suitors could look at Wesley Sneijder's success at Inter Milan for inspiration: Sneijder was another creative Dutch midfielder deemed redundant at Madrid and he flourished elsewhere.

Simon Kjaer, of Palermo, is also on United's radar and possibly plenty of others as well. I don't expect a busy summer - although we're in need of strengthening - but let the papers amuse themselves with rumours.

I really don't expect a busy summer and I agree with you about rather having Silva than Villa. Van der Vaart on the other hand would be an extremely good signing in an area we need that creativity. Still think we missed a trick with Sneijder. Maybe a left sided midfielder at the most, but seeing as Nani is going to be stuck there....

With Rooney having proven he can play the lone front man in a 4-3-3 it would make sense for us to look at improving the left side of our attack, a goal scoring midfielder and possibly another midfielder depending on what happens with Scholes, Hargreaves and Gibson this summer. Who the targets are will be very dependant on who shines at the world cup and where teams finish in their respective leagues. I'd love to see a cheekys bid for Kaka, Lassana Diarra and Modric/Silva. Those three would give us brilliant options when playing a 4-3-3. More realistically I would bet on us signing Joe Cole and Rodwell.

Boring I'd rather Juan Mata than Silva or Villa if we were to pillage Valencia

Everyone missed out on sneijder.year after year Madrid always have an influx of players coming through, kissing the badge, declaring their love yet most dont even make the grade yet you'll find players always keep madrid as 1st preference.Anyway what happened to Defour? thought you were linked with him.

Defour, I think would be an option depending on how he recovers and gets a longish stint playing. Good player, but I am not so sure if we end up keeping the likes of Gibson next season. Juan Mata is a good player and would be more in line with the new transfer policies at our club. I think a goal keeper should be of more concern than any other position.

Well, tags seem to be an arbitrary decision between the media, the agent and the selling club. I would rather we paid 12 million on a Juan mata than 20 on an Ashley young! I still think we are not going to make any investments on the wings unless it is Silva. And the way we have been playing, it's not THAT much of a problem position.

Silva, Joe Cole, Neuer, and Torres - 4 fantastic signings that would make my summer, and we also get rid of Berba, Anderson, and Foster

Joey would make your summer?? Please all chelsea fans read what nite said! He's kinda undermined in our parts yet he's such a quality player. The thing we fear most is that Fergie will make him a better player,we cant let that happen.
