United will face Bayern Munich in the Champions League quarter-finals and though they have two of the most sought-after footballers in the world in Arjen Robben and Franck Ribéry, the Bavarians are not exactly confident about the tie.
Chairman and legend Franz Beckenbauer admitted they fear Wayne Rooney and that it will be an almost impossible job to stop him.
'He is doing an absolutely fantastic job for Manchester United and I must tell you that we at Bayern will fear him when we play United in the Champions League quarter-finals,' Beckenbauer said.
'He is a brilliant player who is playing better than ever. It is not easy to score 33 goals for your club in England, or anywhere else. I have never seen him play better and I have been watching him for a long time now.'
'Anything is possible but first we have to stop Wayne and no one has been able to do that very often this season.'
He's not exactly bullish. Legendary keeper Oliver Kahn said United have a 60% chance of going through while coach Louis van Gaal also admitted that they have to face the second strongest team in the tournament: according to the Dutchman, United and Barcelona are massive favourites for the competition.
Bayern are still fighting for a domestic double and you get the feeling that they consider the league and the cup more important than the Champions League where nobody really expected them to do anything this season, even though the elimination of the likes of Real Madrid, Chelsea and AC Milan means that some massive obstacles are out of their way in Europe as well.
Still, tonight they survived a tricky cup tie at Schalke to advance to the final after extra time. A 120 minute exertion at the home of one of their fiercest rivals just a week ahead of the Champions League showdown - nice!
