Berbatov: The Assist Was Better Than The Goal

Dimitar Berbatov was praised by Sir Alex Ferguson after the Fulham game: according to the boss, Berbatov has been an unsung hero of our season, providing assists and scoring goals as well, reaching double figures for the league campaign.

Berbatov scored and assisted against Fulham and he was in good spirits after the game.

'I'm pleased,' he told MUTV.

'It's part of my job, to assist and to score, but if we win it doesn't matter if I score, as long as we are champions in the end. I preferred the second goal I gave to Wayne today than scoring.'

And it was a magnificent assist, underlining Berbatov's massive quality. If only he could produce these more regularly... But right now he's a perfect understudy for Rooney though I must admit that it does not seem to make much of a difference to Rooney's performances if Berbatov isn't there to help him.

But I firmly believe that Berba will be a very important contributor to the final weeks of the season. He will play a big part in the title push, that's for sure.

He's been in really good form lately, we even seemed to collapse against Everton when he came off. I think he's a brilliant player that gets very little recognition for what he does solely based on his price tag.

I think he's extremely unlucky. Goalkeepers always seem to pull off super saves against him. If his team mates weren't so wasteful (Park, Valencia and Anderson - I'm talking about you!) he'd rightly be recognised as one of the best playmakers in the league. His vision, touch and passing is brilliant - but he is an easy target. He doesnt run around alot and he isnt as prolific as a £30M striker should. His record this year is better, but because we play one up front he's been benched - which makes it look like Fergie doesnt rate him, which obviously isnt true.

Hes too hit and miss this year - and I for one am disappointed in him....

He has been great in the last few games and the goal against Fulham will have helped him.just needs to make a few more runs in the box and has to be better in this finishing.I always feel he tries to act like an artist on the field.
