United Poised To Sign Fulham Defender Smalling

Sky Sports understands that Manchester United have made a successful bid for Fulham defender Chris Smalling. The 20-year-old is regarded as a huge talent and has made his first Premier League start at Stamford Bridge this season.

There is not a word about how much United will pay for the defender, the only thing the report says that Fulham accepted the bid. I do not know if it's true, after all, Fergie reiterated time and again that he would not sign a defender for cover - though of course Smalling would be more like a future investment than an immediate solution for our defensive crisis which is easing anyway.

So, I don't know what to think, I'm waiting for official confirmation before really getting into this. One thing though: I would be glad if it were true because he's a fine young centre-back for sure. We'll see.

Would be nice if it were true; but it could easily be one of those stories planted by another club so that when they sign him it seems more impressive. Fergie said we wouldnt be buying anyone, so I'll believe that until I hear something official. Either way though, I've only heard good things about this kid - Arsenal have been linked with him a lot recently.
