Fletcher: I Was Sent Off For Nothing

Darren Fletcher has been angered by his frankly ridiculous dismissal at Birmingham City which means he'll have to miss Saturday's home game against Burnley.

'Saturday was disappointing because I was constantly being fouled and when I said something the ref said to me it is a man's game,' he said.

'So I went in hard and he books me! Then he booked me again for nothing really.'

It's one rule for us and another for the others throughout the season, you have to live with it Darren and you must have seen it coming after the outcry following the games against City and Sunderland. Journos in this country pick up everything that they perceive to be going United's way. Even if it isn't, like Webb's performance against Spurs last year when he awarded a debatable penalty for United when 2-0 down but failed to send off Palacios in the 8th minute for a horrible challenge yet only the former episode got any media coverage.

Same thing here. On the BBC 'as it happened', the journalist doing the job implied that Birmingham was getting no decisions, despite a blatant penalty not awarded for United, then called the six minutes of injury time 'Fergie time' and wrote that the Birmingham staff could not believe their eyes when they saw it going up, like several minutes of added time favours the side which is a man down.

What's the point? The point is that the media allows referees to get away with murder as long as they harm United and referees know that. It must be in their subconscious that a lot of pressure is off their shoulders (which is there because of their incompetence) if they delight the nation by giving decisions against United. Therefore we have to be extra careful on the pitch because we will get a yellow for what other teams won't and penalties will be awarded if a striker makes any kind of contact with one of our defenders (at least that's what I would say on the evidence of spotkicks awarded for Hull and Portsmouth this season). So be careful, Fletch.

That picture above is strangely similar to this 1......http://jwill.files.wordpress.com/2009/09/sloth.jpg

The second booking was extremely soft most referees would never have even given a yellow card for it, its a real shame that fletch has to miss a game for it, consdering the apparently bad postion we are in.

Sorry, that should probably be condolences rather than commiseration, but sad day all the same. FCB
