United Want 'New Zidane' And Madrid Flop Benzema

Oh, it's January again and transfer rumours are in full flight. Fergie's insistence that he won't dip into the transfer market to sign additional defensive cover did not deter the papers from linking us with three centre-backs: Bolton's Gary Cahill, Juventus' Giorgio Chiellini and Palermo's Simon Kjaer.

Of these three, Gary Cahill is not the level we should be looking at, Chiellini's confidence has been badly dented by a few turbulent months this season when Juventus have been leaking goals while Simon Kjaer, though massively talented, expressed his intention to stay at Palermo at least until the summer.

But even if we won't sign defenders, we are certain, according to media sources, to add a little creativity in the form of Sofiane Feghouli, Grenoble's young playmaker, hailed as a new Zidane. According to his club, he's allowed his head to be turned by interest from Europe's big clubs and that's why he appeared only sporadically this season after two largely successful campaigns. He is a quick, skilled and creative player which we clearly need.

But don't worry, if we don't get him, we'll still have Karim Benzema! Oh yes, the French striker who was Fergie's number one target in the summer but United was priced out of a move by Real Madrid who landed the player. Now, according to several newspapers, they are ready to do a Liverpool and sell him on after only a half season as he's been disappointing so far, scoring five goals in fifteen games.

Will Madrid admit he's a flop and sell him? I don't know but do we want Real Madrid rejects? And do we want a player who seemingly can't cut it in the Spanish league where attackers generally have more space, time and opportunities than in England? I'm not sure. But some sources claim that he will have another few months to prove himself in Madrid as United decided to wait until the summer before launching an assault for him.

When did Benzema become available on a free transfer?

Jeez how many "new Zidanes" have there been since the real one retired. People have been saying this about every young french play maker thats ever played in France. As for Benzema, he's looked really good lately if we could get him for about 20-30 million then why not or if their willing, a swap involving one of our flops Berba or Nani, or even if Vidic REALLY wants to go they can give us Garay and Benz for him.

Totally agree with Khoder regarding the number of new zidanes piling up one after the other.

I just hope that the matches start again.I'm so sick and tired of reading the same crap dished out by the media,u just have to lose one game and then everything turns into a crisis.

Instead of buying these young players I would prefer seeing the likes of Gibson,Obertan, and even Petrucci being given a chance to develop and see how they progress further and if they r not good enough then buy someone else.

Yea, the new Zidane thing is getting quiet old. As far as im concerned with Benzema i wouldn't want him here rather get proven Premierleague talent at a decent price rather than a big name with a big price who may end up being crap. Plus he 'loves' Spain so let him be a flop there, plus will Real Madrid accept they were wrong? Unlikely. Chiellini or Kjaer I think would be good signings but i doubt Juventus would sell Chiellini and even still like said before these are Summer tranfers. We wont be getting no-one. As a sidenote i would prefer to keep Vidic then let him go to Real Madrid.

Lazy journos think they're being clever by coming up with silly labels like that I guess. That's why every promising Brazilian is the new "Pele" or every young Argentine the "New Maradonna" Doiesn't do the players any favours and just annoys the crap out of the fans. And for what it's worth, Benzema ain't the new Zidane!

OU23 - since when has there ever been proven PL talent at a decent price? Not having a go, it's just that I can't remember any decent English/PL players going for anything other than stupid money, except maybe to a foreign league.

Its rare that you get cheap prices when you buy from another PL team, but the price is justified by the fact that you have a better idea of what you are getting. Obviously the benzema and feghouli rumours are just fantasy, but if the price was right I wouldnt mind us picking up Kjaer or Chiellini as we should be looking at replacing Rio and Vidic at some point.
