Fletcher's Hell Is Over

Fletcher's Hell Is Over

OK, the headline is somewhat melodramatic but still: Darren Fletcher did not relish playing in the back four and is not ashamed to admit it. He's a midfielder, after all, and with Vidic and Brown back and Evans edging towards full fitness, he hopes he won't have to leave the midfield again this season.

'It is okay in one-off games to have midfielders playing out of position. When it goes to a run of four or five games it is inevitable that mistakes are going to happen because it is not natural.'

'You are talking about Premier League and Champions League matches and you are in a position you have never played in during your entire life. It is very difficult. We went to Fulham with basically just one defender fit in Patrice.

'It was important for the team that we got our defenders back fit because they are top class.'

What he failed to mention is that he was desperately missed from midfield during this period - he is irreplaceable as long as Hargreaves can't defeat his own demons.
