United Won't Buy Defensive Cover

United Won't Buy Defensive Cover

Fergie ruled out any chance of entering the transfer market to ease the current injury crisis in defence which threatens to derail our entire season.

'That has not come onto the agenda,' he said.

'We hope that Wes Brown will be back in a week or 10 days' time, Rio Ferdinand is improving, Gary Neville is getting there and Rafael Da Silva has now started training.

'We are not so bad and we are not looking at signing players.'

No surprises there: after all, this nightmare of a situation should be over by the time any new defender settles in - remember how long it took for Vidic and Evra to come to terms with the demands of the English game?

By the way, most sites and papers interpreted Fergie's comments as suggesting we will not buy ANYONE in January. He did not say that: he replied to a question relating to the current injury crisis and confirmed that he would not address the situation by buying any new player. That does not necessarily mean that no strikers or midfielders will arrive.

I'm almost certain that they won't, of course, but that's another matter.

They really should buy at least one centre back for cover at the very least i'm tired of seeing the likes of fletcher and carrick being wasted in defensive positions. Campbell would be good as a quick fix solution seeing as he's free or atleast recall simpson and cathcart, but this is really a problem that needs to be looked at if they want any chance at winning the premier league.

I agree with Khoder and looking at o'shea, evans and rio, these guys r not going to return before the end of jan.So a call to campbell won't be that bad.

Both of you must be mad. I do not want Sol Campbell anywhere near my club. He had his chance 8 years ago but was greedy and turned his back on Spurs and joined l'arse. O'Shea and Evans are back 10th Jan, Rafael & Wes Brown are back for Wigan, Fabio is fit again and Neville and Rio should be fit for the leads game. Recall one of youngsters YES, sign Campbell HELL NO!

The word you should have used is "can't"...

NRD-Its sometimes the situation that we have to look at and not the relation of the player with our club and if these defenders r back in time, then ofcourse we won't require anyone but if they are not back in time, then I would say go get anyone whether its campbell or campbell's father.

Well bringing back youngsters won't help us in anyway because its from jan to the end of the season, when the tension starts building up and the last thing u want to do is to throw these youngsters into the fray.In this situation all we require is a defender who is fully fit,has experience of playing at the highest level and if he has played in the english league then thats a bonus. So thats why Mr.Sol Campbell.

One last thing before I leave,NRD don't take those dates of recovery that u mentioned that seriously because I remember last season when Wes or Rafael were injured, they were supposed to be back in two or three weeks but they never made it in that timescale. So don't trust it unless u see them on the pitch.Another example is Hargo who was expected to be fit and playing by the end of november but now it seems that the end of jan. would be the date for him to step into the first team plans again. To tell u the truth I don't expect him to be fit for even this season.I hope I'm proved wrong.

Lets face it Rafa and Wes Brown are notorious sick notes. Rio has been all year but the other players I take pretty acurately. I expect 2 midfielders and a full back at the back again vs Hull, but expect to see centre-halves come Wigan. If money has to be spent it certainly isn't in defence. We have a freakish injury crisis that nobody could predict signing another defender when we already have 9 won't help matters. To say get anyone in defence boggles my mind. We want quality not another body. I'd rather give a youngster a chance it certainly helped Jonny Evans and prior to him it helped O'Shea and Brown when they were breaking through.

No ones saying not to give youngsters a chance infact I am always happy when they shine but to give them a chance at this stage of the season is something I don't agree with may be in the cup games or if we have a good lead.

You have to buy at least one defender in the transfer window
