Giggs: 'I Never Dreamed I Would Win It'

Ryan Giggs has been named as BBC Sports Personality of the Year, finishing ahead of Formula One World Champion Jenson Button and world heptathlon gold winner Jessica Ennis. Giggs, having won his 11th league title in May, said he was shocked upon hearing the result.

'The names of genuine legends of world sport are on this trophy. I never dreamed I would win it,' he said.

'To win the Formula 1 World Championship was a great achievement for Jenson and I watched Jessica win the world heptathlon gold, which was unbelievable.'

'I'm really pleased and am in total shock to win the award, and just tremendously proud.

'I was honestly surprised just to be on the list of nominees.'

But I don't think anyone can argue that he did not deserve it. What's left for Ryan Giggs OBE now? The knighthood, that's all. What a man.

Many congrats to Ryan, not a Man Utd fan (Villa fan in fact) but think he is a total star and rightly named in the awards. Got to be in the all time top five best Premier League players imho.

To be at the top for twenty years is a massive achievement, a model professional, no one deserved it more.

Really happy for Giggs I am surprised he won (thought Jenson would win) and even more surprised by some of the gracious comments towards him by other fans. I don't think we'll ever see someone play for so long at just one club in England. I can see Messi doing it for Barcelona but thats about it.
