Rooney: I'd Never Give Away My United Medals

England is in World Cup fever again, what with the draw having taken place this afternoon. Yet Wayne Rooney did not go for cheap popularity with the cheerleaders: he did not say he would trade anything he had won so far for a World Cup medal even though it's surely the line the more patriotic type of people want to hear?

'With all the trophies I've won so far, it's involved so much hard work from myself and my team-mates, so I'd never give them away for anything,' he said instead.

'But to win a World Cup would be an unbelievable feeling.'

Good answer, that one. Perfect balance between 'Oh, a World Cup would top ANYTHING' and 'who cares, we do not have a chance of winning the thing anyway'. Nice.
