A Cheyrou At United? Scary Thought!

I must admit I'm not very consistent with transfer rumours: I just cherrypick the ones that attract my interest for some reason. The latest talk is about Marouane Chamakh and Benoit Cheyrou: according to several press reports, United are set to bring them to England in January.

Chamakh, Bordeaux's number one striker, has been linked with various top clubs recently and Arsenal wanted to sign him during the summer, only to be put off by Bordeaux's asking price. I'm not a great fan of his but at 25 years of age he might represent good investment even though it is unlikely we'll sign him.

But Benoit Cheyrou? Surely you remember his brother, Bruno? He is a Liverpool legend for... for... well, for being one of the worst buys in the history of the club. He was the Lucas of Gerard Houllier. It's actually scary to think that a Cheyrou (they're brothers, by the way) could wear a United shirt. It would feel like an uncanny symbol of decline...

Wait, but you're okay with owen wearing manchester red?
cfcAlex
@cfcAlex, It's not the club that he comes from that is the cause for concern here, it's the worst player from THAT club[well, the sibling at least]!

benoit cheyrou is a decent player from what i have seen of him i wouldnt mind him for extra depth and chamakh is a great player him and rooney upfront would be similar to heskey rooney for england but chamakh is faster and a better goal getter

Wasn't Bruno Cheyrou dubbed the new Zidane? It's that time of year when the rumour mill starts running wild. Until they pose with a United shirt (with the exception on Moneybags Mikel which was a good thing) I tend to ignore these stories. Lljac joins in Jan as does that Diouf guy I don't think we'll buy in Jan. Wait till the summer and if we are after any big name player get them before the World Cup and not after.

The mighty manure being linked to cheap players who have no PL experience yet again. Still think Fergie has £80m to spend, or have the Glazers stuffed it under the mattress?

cfcAlex: no, I'm not okay. I had been protesting against it long and hard but in the end I was forced to accept he would stay. My summer articles made my point quite clearly: I did not want him for a moment. Especially because I don't think he's good enough and to be honest, when Berba and/or Rooney play badly I never think it's time to send on Owen because I don't think he offers a lot.

fifthcolumnblue: there are few players with PL experience who would genuinely improve the squad... as for being linked to players: we've been linked to Aguero, Villa and Silva as well, transfer rumours are hardly indicative of a club's financial position, only of the public's perception of this position.
Zae
Yes, but you can make up rumours linking you to very expensive signings like Villa and Silva (or Benzema in the summer) all you want, but don't you think your fans will start to wonder what's going on when you end up with the likes of Mikey Owen on a free again?
