Obertan Set To Play Tonight

As you probably know United face Barnsley tonight in the Carling Cup. The holders visit Oakwell after Sunday's demoralising loss at Anfield but there's some big news: Gabriel Obertan will feature.

'He`ll play tomorrow against Barnsley, it`s a good start for him,' Sir Alex confirmed. The French winger has been bought for 3 million pounds but a spinal injury has kept him out of action so far. But he's back and he might even start tonight as we aim to continue our defence of the cup.

Of course Obertan is hardly the saviour of our season, for two reasons. First: our season hardly needs to be saved, as it's still only October and we're two points behind Chelsea in second place and we are sitting comfortably atop of our Champions League group.

Second, he's a guy who's supposed to be a real talent and all but he was criticised for his attitude and application at his former club Bordeaux who were only too willing to let him go for a pittance. Sir Alex's been enthusing about him though and his reserve outings showed one thing clearly: he's got pace to burn. Which is something we really need in attack, as only Valencia is extra-quick (and Nani but he's frustratingly useless frustratingly often).

Don't expect much tonight of course: a good solid debut would be more than fine.

The boy seems to have bags of talent and pace, let's hope this one grabs the chances he gets! Hope we play a front three of Obertan, Wellbeck and Macheda.

Barnsley were terrible, so please do yourself a favor and don't 'big-up- yourselves. Of course you can talk all you like about Neville's studs-up tackle - that'll be fun.

What was the difference between that and carraghers inside the box on Carrick on Sunday absolutely nothing. One gets sent off the other doesnt but both win the ball. We had 2 players come back from injury, 4 teenagers playing and someone making their debut in English football. Thought we did well I wonder if you could play as many young players as we did and win. Highly doubt it.

NeRD, I suspect your under-16 side could have won at Barnsley last night - they were that poor!

NRD - What was the food like at Barnsley last night? It looked a bit messy there at Oakwell in that self-service outlet!

Well we beat a slightly better team than Barnsley tonight by playing a lot of players coming back from injury and by rotating our squad so I guess that this answers the question.
