Another Champions League Record For United

Another Champions League Record For United

United have been, by and large, struggling away from home in the Champions League throughout the Fergie era. Except the last two years: since the 3-0 defeat at the San Siro in 2007 we haven't lost on the road in Europe's premier competition, thus equalling Ajax's record of going 14 away games unbeaten.

"I think we should be proud of it," Sir Alex said after tonight's 1-0 win at CSKA Moscow.

"It`s not easy away from home in Europe. We`ve been to some fantastic places over the years.

"We showed maturity. There is a way of playing away in Europe, you saw it tonight."

It's certainly true that we seem to have learnt how to produce those 'textbook' away performances which brought so much success for Italian sides over the years. Last season's win at Porto or the 2-0 defeat of Roma in 2008 were perfect examples: United kept their shape, played in a very disciplined way and took their chances. Just like at Besiktas and at CSKA this season.

It took Fergie a long time to master this but finally we do not have to be afraid ahead of a European away trip. We rarely produce flowing football on these trips - last season's brilliant display at the Emirates was the exception rather than the rule - but seem to possess an uncanny ability of grinding out results in dire games.

I must admit though that I was unaware of this record: as the usual quality of our football away from home in the Champions League is pretty... average, to say the least, I did not realise we became so hard to beat on the road. It feels strange, after so many years.

I can't see what attracts you here either FU, it's not like you got lots of fans here is it? If it wasn't for us, this place probably wouldn't exist.

Blue - This is MY club's site! I'd come here even if I were the ONLY member! We don't need your snide comments to keep this place going thank you very much. I'd rather this place be a damp, quiet place than to have to read the drivel you and fifth spout on here! You're welcome on here as any fan is but it seems that most of the time, you just comment on our articles just to have a go! It gets old and annoying after a while.....

The fact of the matter is that manure fans cannot handle a bit of banter FUbar. My comments are generally intended as sarcasm and I do take the proverbial as you are a rival club. I do the same thing on other Vital sites, and it is generally well received. Unfortunately, there are a large number of manure fans who seem to be suffering from that classic condition known as "sense of humour bypass", and they seem totally incapable of responding to any criticisms of their club in a humourous or friendly way. So try to lighten up, and remember - you give it out, particularly to City an Liverpool fans (or are you seriously suggesting that the scousers eat rats eh?) so be prepared to take it.

Ah yes the snide comments disguised under the word "banter" face it you go out looking to annoy United fans because thats what being a cit-eh fan is all about, certainly isn't about winning trophies and games (unless you count the Championship aka Division 1) Hell you look up our results before your own. Yes we give it out at matches and face to face, but on a website. Jesus Christ boy thats just childish. "Nobody's on the forums" well boo hoo. Forums IMO are for geeks and nerds like yourself. I like to make a quick comment (without filling out pages and pages of details to sign up to a forum) and then move on. You probably post on here more than you do on your own vital site. Never posted on you site never will and have posted on dippers website just to ask what they thought about the beach boy being an idiot which is hardly antagonistic (lets face it he was a muppet for punching it onto the field)

Regarding the record we broke, its impressive but its never going to get the attention. Now if the dippers or chelski had done it that would be a different story.
