Obertan Set For Debut This Month

It looks like that Gabriel Obertan will finally make his Manchester United debut this month. According to news reports, the French winger has recovered from the spinal injury that kept him on the sidelines and has started full training with the squad.

Obviously he's some way short of match fitness but he should feature in the next two or three weeks - the most likely date is the Carling Cup clash at Barnsley on October 27. His recovery poses a threat for the ineffective and disappointing Nani who'd do well to start performing to the standards expected of him.

Obertan is a mystery though, it's uncertain what we should expect from him. Bordeaux was willing to let him go for only 3m and he didn't light up the stage at Lorient where he was loaned out for the final few months of his Ligue 1 career. He's supposed to be a real talent but at his former club many were surprised by his move to United so it looks unlikely that he'll play a major part this season. We may hope that his mere presence will spur Nani on a little...

Well the rest of the Premier League can't wait for this - Is he as good as Valencia?

Finally from what i've seen he appears to have alot of potential, I think Nanis being treated harshly, he has to take a big step and everyones expecting an instant result from him and who knows Obertan might be the kick he needs to jumpstart him.

I saw him play for France Under 21s or Under 20s or something vs England and he terrorised the defence and got Man of the Match. Will he be available agaisnt Barnsley that would be a good game to play him in.

Hope he does well, hopefully he will have a better debut than his French friend evra

to me Valencia is the one under threat completely and utterly disapointing(though i expected it based on his performances for wigan) nani hasn't done as bad...he actually has more assists and goals and more effective than valencia...yet still disapointing i hope obertan would be good we need someone with more ability than valencia, more creativity...wait lots of ppl could do better than valencia...even me...sad

I feel that I speak for all City fans when I say that we really hope Obertan is a successful for you as Nani and Valencia have been to date.

Referring to NRD's link i must say that was a very nice bit of trickery from Obertan there.

He was damn poor in Ligue 1 last year.

essentially JT taking this kid is a risk but in my point of view its a risk worth taking he showed a lot of potential a couple of years ago...but with injuries and lack of confidence he didn't do as well last year.....but with sir Alex backing him to succeed the confidence will come and hopefully since he is still very young he will go on to fulfill his potential
