'If It's Football, It's Vital'

You Don't Have To Apologize, Michael

Michael Owen declared that being at Old Trafford was everything you could expect from probably the biggest club in the world. It seems that some over-sensitive scousers have taken it as a sly dig at their club. Bless them, they always think everything's about them.

'I didn't set out to offend anyone,' he explained.

'What I said was, in terms of support, revenue and stadium, Man United are probably the biggest in the world but Madrid, Barcelona and Liverpool are up there with them in other areas.

'In saying that, I'm sure things I've said at different times over the last 20 years will be dredged up and turned into back-page stories over the next two weeks.'

It's all right, Michael, you don't have to apologize for or explain anything. Don't bring Barcelona and Real Madrid into this; nobody will care. It will be about United and Liverpool. And there's no need to apologize for saying United are the bigger (especially as he didn't actually say that): it's true, obviously. Stadium, fanbase, glamour, prestige, playing squad - you name it, United are bigger and better in every department.

Owen's lucky to be at such a club - the likes of Blackburn and Wigan turned him down in the summer after all. So no surprise that he's full of enthusiasm about United; it's the least we can do after we handed his career a much-needed lifeline.

You are completely convinced you are so much better than the scousers, and yet.... You constantly need to harp on about it. Bit like the way you tell us that "liddle ciddy" don't matter to you, then sing songs about us whilst playing in Europe, put up banners etc. If you really didn't have this deep seated neurosis about your rivals you would just shut up about us wouldn't you?

fifthcolumnblue - If we shut up about you then how will it be a rivalry? We don't put up banners to taunt Aston Villa because we don't care about them, they're not one of our rivals. I hope you now understand how rivalry works...

Ahh, the reassuringly patronising tone of the arrogant red. For a minute there I thought you were going soft NRD!

Biggest in every way apart from the one that matters, trophies. Owen is just scared about Anfield in a couple of weeks. Once a manc, never a Red.

Theres no need to apologise for being injured either Owen as everybody had already anticipated that this would happen several times, going on past form!

Ah! So we ARE a rival of the Rags! Finally someone has the balls to speak the truth.

Well....more so than Villa are!

KB1 - We have more domestic trophies than you do so....yea take that!

Your maths ain't too good FU. Liverpool FC - 18 Leagues, 7 FA cups, 7 League cups. Mancs - 18 Leagues, 11 FA cups, 3 League cups. 32 vs 32. And then there is Europe where there is no competition. So have, and indeed take, that. Bow down son.
