'If It's Football, It's Vital'

This Is NOT Paul Scholes' Final Season

Sir Alex believes Paul Scholes will stay on for at least another year as he's fresh enough. And there's no chance that Scholesy will ever play for his boyhood favourites Oldham Athletic.

"I don`t think this is Paul`s last season, not the way that he plays," Fergie said.

"He is not the type to burst in to the penalty box any more, is he?"

"It`s difficult to say because it`s still only September, but I am seeing the fresh Scholesy and the best time to use him is when he is fresh.

"He will not be playing the whole season, but if I get 25 games out of him at the level we saw on Saturday, I will be delighted at that. I have read that stuff about him at Oldham in his last year — no chance. He isn`t going to drop through the leagues, I am sure of it."

So, Fergie plans to rely on Scholes for next season as well. It probably isn't the best thing for our short-term chances of success if we're honest but his influence on Anderson and later Ljajic could work wonders. Hopefully.

Or he could just reduce their chances of getting in the team! Scholes isnt exactly sociable and I think the best chance our young players have of improving is by doing it the same way scholes did - learn by playing in the first team. With him still kicking around, that opportunity is reduced in my view.

I agree with Tuscan here. Even though he is a United Legend his ability is clearly deteriating and on those grounds really shouldn't be relied on too much. We really should start bringing in the younger players while slowly pushing Scholes out of the First Team picture and bring Anderson or another youth player into the team.
