Obertan Is In Fergie's Plans - Tosic Isn't
There were no major surprises in United's Champions League squad. Owen Hargreaves could play some part in the group stage after being included, as we have noted and there is another injured player, new signing Gabriel Obertan, in the 35-man squad.
However, Zoran Tosic is absent from the squad which indicates that unlike Obertan, he's got no further place in the manager's plans. You can only register 25 players who were born before January 1988 and Tosic couldn't be fitted into this 25 (Fabio and Rafael are in the 25 despite being born before 1988, because they haven't spent two uninterrupted seasons at the club yet).
Sadly, it's no major surprise. In January there were plenty of rumours that we had bought Tosic only because Partizan, for some bizarre reason, had insisted that we buy not just Adem Ljajic but Tosic, too. Ljajic's arrival is eagerly anticipated at Old Trafford but it looks like his compatriot is unlikely to taste regular first-team football any time soon.
After all, he could not even get in ahead of Gabriel Obertan who is hardly a major signing at a 3 million price, never played a game for the club and is out until October with an injury. Still, it looks clear and obvious that he's in Fergie's plans much more than Tosic ever was. The Serbian is lightweight, barely gained any muscle during his stay in England and it seems that the length of his Old Trafford career will be determined by how long he'll accept being stuck in the Reserves.
