'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Owen Is Hungry For Our Love!

Many, the author of this piece included, were firmly against the idea of United signing Michael Owen. His first two games did nothing to dispel the gloom that his transfer caused around Old Trafford - but finally, he's off the mark and in spectacular fashion.

However, it's no great thing that he scored a goal at Wigan with United already 3-0 up. It's hardly comparable with a winner against Arsenal, for example, whom we'll play next week. But at least he showed that playing and scoring is still important to him and that he wants us to accept him.

I was against the idea of signing him and still do not like it much that an ex-Liverpool player should wear our number seven shirt. But he's obviously keen on us accepting him, his joyous celebration, the kisses he threw at us after scoring showed that quite clearly - and it couldn't be more obvious that he knows he's got a lot to prove as well. Hopefully he'll regain his confidence and start delivering the way Sir Alex expects.

tbh although we are happy(very happy with the result) i don't think it actually reflected how badly we played.....but at least its a sign we got some goals in us.....and hopefully a sign of good things to come
