Carrick Singing The Songs Of Optimism

It looks like that 'unrestrained optimism' is the dish of the day at United. Everyone sings the praises of our new signings even though neither can be expected to keep us at the level of the past three seasons.

'Michael has already done really well,' he said, referring to Michael Owen who indeed did what could be expected of him so far.

'He is a top player and I am sure he will score lots of goals for us.

'Antonio joined us a little later for training so I have only seen a bit of him so far.

'But he`s already shown what great qualities he has and I`m sure he will be a huge success.'

I'm not sure Carrick is aware of the huge burden he's facing... though now I think about it, he's had the same burden on his shoulders throughout last season but he coped magnificently. Hopefully he'll be as assured and solid as last season and then we'll have hope of having a successful campaign.

Edwin van der Sar's out for eight weeks... perfect for Ben to come in and not give him his place back? Or will he miss his chance and Tomasz just fill in? I really hope this is what Ben has been waiting for, to become our no.1.

Usually this would have me worried, but I think its a blessing in disguise for Foster. Kusczack will always be a number 2 in my eyes especially at a club like ours. Having said that, he has improved immensely since we signed him.

Carrick? Singing?

NotoriousRedDevil, I really hope Foster proves his worth. This has come at just the right time, with Edwin retiring (end of the season, is that right?) so he can hopefully step in and become our no.1 for some time to come. I really rate his talent and he should make a lot of progress with United, and become England's no.1 too... For once I'm not so bothered with an injury but I hope this just doesn't come back to haunt me. I don't think it will.

Carrick was great last year. Another calm and assured season like that would be brilliant, Michael (or should that be Michael C now?)
