'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Finally, Gill Rejects The Stupid 39th Game

Oh how long I've been waiting for this. David Gill finally rubbished the idea of the 39th game which would be played overseas to satisfy sponsors and TV companies. He pointed out of its obvious flaws.

'If you are talking about a 39th game how do you get the symmetry? The domestic competition is the domestic competition. The Premier League is the Premier League in England. The Premier League should still look at opportunities and ideas but I cannot see an extra game happening.'

"If it was the 38th, whose home game would it be? How do you decide who will play where? It would be a step too far."

Why is it great news? Because like it or not, United are the biggest, most famous club of the Premier League. Without us, the commercial benefits of this 39th game would be drastically reduced - and the Premier League is surely aware of that. If Gill, the chief executive of the biggest global brand of the competition, can't see this 39th game happening then we might hope that it won't happen.

Good. It's a ridiculous idea, and completely unfair. Imagine the uproar if the last fixtures were, say, Man Utd-Birmingham, Liverpool-Chelsea and Man Utd won the title by beating Birmingham whilst the other game was a draw? Likewise, if relegation was decided. Besides, it would just mean more travelling, more fatigue before big competitions. Stupid. Would never have worked and I hope they don't try.

We need to keep the idiots who think of this crap away from the beautiful game.

if it ain't broke, don't fix it.The Premier League is the Premier League in England as Mr.David Gill rightly stated.

They're still talking about this silly idea?

We all know that the 39th game would interfere with Yernited's lucrative mid season jaunts to the far east, so obviously Gill has looked at the money side of things and rejected it.
