United Won't Buy More Players This Summer

United Won't Buy More Players This Summer

To many fans' dismay - but not necessarily surprise - Fergie declared that United finished with strengthening the team this summer. We won't buy anyone else in addition to Obertan, Valencia and Owen.

'It is the end of our business, so all these stories about who were are supposed to be getting - forget it,' he said.

'There are some amazing numbers being talked about, not all of them realistic. It is very difficult to get value now. In a way we benefited through the sale of Cristiano, although that figure was non-negotiable.

'But I feel we have a good squad, which meant there was no need for knee-jerk reactions. We asked about Benzema and we had a value for him. Lyon have done well because they got €42million but I think we took a sensible view.'

Well, yes and no. The current squad is almost certainly not good enough to challenge for the title AND in the Champions League as well. And as so many others I also expected a central midfielder which we apparently won't get as Fergie, probably, still has faith in Scholes and Giggs.

He also added that both Macheda and Welbeck can expect more opportunities next season and at least this is certainly a welcome development.

Well I don't know about the rest but I have no problems with that, infact I have already said that with the team that we have and the number of youngsters coming through,it would be sensible to finish it right now if we care about the development of young players.

We've spent big over the last 3 years and many people expected us to do the same. Only time shall tell if this was the right thing to do. I think we have enough players in the squad but its questionable about the quality we have in certain areas. I do think Welbeck, Macheda, Gibson, Rafael and Fabio all to step up a gear this season though.

I would have guessed that we might sign some cover for DM, but its no big deal as long as fletcher is fit. Personally, I'm happy with the squad, I've seen nothing to suggest that our domestic dominance is under threat, but would agree that having already looked inferior to barcelona, we haven't done any business which would reverse that situation. But hey, that isn't to say we have no chance of beating them - 11 men behind the ball and nicking the odd goal can work against anybody!

Tuscan3000-I really wouldn't blame the players, the tactics were the problem.Anyway,we shouldn't look back at the past, the future looks exciting.

we dont need anyone else IMO, which has just been confirmed by fergie.....strikers: rooney, berbatov, owen, macheda, welbeck (plus the fact we dont always play a system that required 2 strikers) wingers: obertan, valencia, tosic (why is he being forgotten, i think SAF wants him to be ronaldos replacement) nani, giggs, park (awesome player, in my starting XI everytime) midfielders: carrick, anderson, scholes, giggs, fletcher (again, awesome IMO) gibson, hargreaves (do peopel forget we payed 18 mil for this guy??) and defenders/goalkeepers everyoen knows we are fine, raphael will be AMAZING next year imo. we cant just buy peopel when others have off spells/ get injured. we have ALOT of good players, lets use em. well in SAF for stoppign thsi crazy rumour mill, now we can get on with gelling the team and getting ready for next year!!!!!!!!

also, i know peopel will barate me...but maybe in the absense of ronaldo we will indeed get back the form of 2006/07, were we ran away with the leauge. The past two years, though amazing, ronaldo certainly was our main target, whereas in 06/07 we had ronaldo (valencia?) and rooney linking up and a very prolific saha (owen anybody?)....plus the likes of ando, park, carrick, rafael have becoem v.important to us last year. i am very confident in this team and am happy. im glad fergie has decidd to stop

united4life, exactly what i said in a previous comment... though I'm not decided whether Fergie is sincere in this or whether he's just trying to put people off the scent and swoop for someone in a shock move. Either way, I'm happy. skylab, precisely. I certainly think the team will flow better.

I thought we were having all the Ronaldo money for new players? Maybe I'm stupid but that's what I thought United said... and we've only spent our £20m annual budget - haven't touched the Ronaldo part... so does Fergie really mean that?

I think we are absolutely fine the way we are right now. Our defense is intact, we have a lot of options in the midfield and I'm starting to like the look of our strikeforce. I'm looking forward to seeing the new United - a team of players who all actually WANT to play for us!
